Do you know where you would like to be but can't seem to find the right pathway to get there? Or do you sometimes find that path, yet still get sidetracked? Whether it's your relationships, your past or present experiences, or something you just can't pinpoint, it's common to have things get out of control. Believe it or not, you've already taken the first step to getting back on track.

How many times in the last week have you said “Are you fucking kidding me?” Are you from Gen-Z & struggling because of the socioeconomic & political climate? Maybe you’re a millennial trying to balance being perfect at work, friendships (likely by making plans to make plans), attending friend’s weddings/baby showers, & scrolling the dating apps trying to find your person (because this time, it will totally be different!). Perhaps you’re just trying to grapple with the millionth ‘once in a lifetime’ event that happened this week, or you’re a parent wanting to heal your own childhood traumas to be a healthier parent.

Hey there :) Really glad you've stopped by here! I'm Rebecca, founder and psychotherapist of RKG Psychotherapy. Times are super strange right now, and this isn't something you should have to handle without some support along the way. For a lot of us, this constant atmosphere of stress and uncertainty can feel unbearable at times. There has been an unprecedented shift recently in a nationwide embrace for mental wellness and caring for our mental health needs, and you can be a part of it. This a great time to start working with a counselor to address better and different ways to manage stress, conflict, and overwhelming emotions.

What brings you here today? What are you unclear about in your life, that if you figured it out, would make the biggest difference? You can't always be prepared to handle work-life, relationships, loss, and life transitions that cause anxiety and depression. Life happens and it's "OK" to have a few bad days. Through the therapeutic process, I want to help you embark on a journey to diagnose hidden symptoms of mental and emotional trauma that hinders your ability to cultivate healthy narratives. I want you to take control of your PURPOSE, GOALS, and become the BEST version of YOU.

Why do people seek psychotherapy and psychological counseling? Life brings challenges that make people discouraged. They find themselves facing problems and stressful situations which cause them to experience loneliness, anxiety, insomnia, sadness or anger. People hope to gain a better understanding of themselves and their situations. The goal in Therapy is to make your life work better. I focus on identifying and altering self-defeating behaviors through insight and awareness. This results in less self defeating choices and a greater sense of well being. Insight and Mindfulness are the tools of change.

Do you ever feel inadequate? Ever wish you had more self-control around food? Do you always feel dissatisfied with your body? Maybe you feel as though you’ll finally be happy once you lose weight, work out more or “shape up.” Do you ever avoid certain social events because of food or fear of comments about your eating or body? The problem isn’t your body, food or your “lack of self-control.” You won’t find help in the newest diet or workout trend. “Just eat” or “just stop eating” aren’t the solutions either. You want to feel at peace with your body and as if you have control over food and NOT the other way around. I can help you.

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist providing individual psychotherapy for adults (18+) with a wide variety of difficulties and concerns. A personalized therapy approach is customized together for your specific needs, wishes, and values. My patients often find it helpful when we integrate trauma-informed approaches with empathic psychoanalytic/psychodynamic ways of understanding their feelings, experiences, and thoughts. Deeper insight into one's relational patterns and how the past influences the present tends to grow clients beyond areas in their lives where they feel stuck or behind so they can move towards their goals.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
