Why is it that only 41% of people with mental health needs have sought out services within the past year? Perhaps there was a lack of connection between the client and the therapist. I hope to be that warm connection to a therapist that you have been seeking. Welcome! Congratulations on taking that first step towards personal growth and transformation - let's take the next part of your journey together. I can help you tackle those issues that have been keeping you stuck, to help you to move toward clarity, just by helping you discover the internal resources that you already possess.

Perhaps you are having difficulties in your primary relationships, perhaps there are stressors at work, perhaps you face a great choice and several obstacles are hindering your clarity and peace. I have been honored to witness individuals and couples overcome many barriers that initially seemed insurmountable. Based on my experience and the lived experience of those I work with I believe that a full, happy, and peaceful life is within reach for everyone who seeks it.

Connecting with the right therapist can help us lighten negative feelings from week to week. Often, these feelings can leave us feeling burdened, and reaching out to loved ones can seem impossible. Trusting a therapist enough to give them a call or an email can seem so risky.

Personal power is a phrase often said, but not always understood. Owning the impact of the choices you make, comes with recognizing the power your voice and behavior have on your future. The journey I have chosen has offered me the understanding of the physical and emotional impact of change, by owning my power to have the life I want. I want to offer you the support we all require, to consciously begin your journey to own your power to change your life.

This approach is excellent for interpersonal and relationship difficulties.
Above all, therapy is a relationship. I work collaboratively with my clients to develop a safe, trusting, and attuned relationship that we can use to explore problematic patterns of relating, work through emotional tensions and conflicts, and better understand themselves. Through the therapeutic relationship, we can begin to unravel those patterns that keep people wondering, "why does this keep happening?", fully experience emotions, develop a greater sense of self-awareness and vitality, and understand how the past impacts and influences the present. Please see my website for more information.

Therapy is about what works for you. I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental, and confidential space to explore and shift away from maladaptive thoughts and patterns. I work relationally with individuals to foster self satisfaction, further self understanding and appreciation, and restore the self. A comfortable patient and therapist relationship is key to successful and meaningful therapy. I view the client as the expert on his or her own experience. I aim to create a safe space in order to expand awareness of that experience, integrate aspects that may have been excluded from awareness, and integrate new experience and meanings.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
