My name is Robert (Bob) Hirsch, and I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. I have been in practice for 25 years and have worked with adults primarily from many communities. My overall approach involves cognitive behavioral therapy combined with coaching techniques. I see therapy as a dialogue - supporting people in the direction they want to pursue. I work with adults both in the straight and LGBTQ communities and have a lot of cross-cultural experience.

I have been working in the mental health field for over 40 years. I started working in mental health facilities in my early 20's while I was in college. I have worked with adults and adolescents in all kinds of modalities, yet I seemed to focus more toward young people and their families with substance abuse problems and anxiety. Some of that stems from having to deal with my own addictions in my late teens and finally getting clean and sober at age 20. Thus, I understand what it is like to be overwhelmed by addiction and the need to engage in a recovery process.

My passion and purpose in this line of work is to educate and equip to safeguard the pure vibrancy of what childhood should be. To not get snagged in the online world. To not feel lost or misunderstood at school. To assist parents who have lost their ability to respond effectively to the challenges that now confront them. Sometimes, often times we are harboring a lot of our own unhealed pain that is now standing in the way of our best interests and the best interests of our children. To provide a safe place to share doubts and worry to regroup in a peaceful setting no matter what point of the lifespan or healing you are on.

Welcome to my practice. I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.
