I also enjoy using Internal Family Systems.
Often when someone experiences trauma or severe life stressors, their life begins to unravel. I meet you where you are. The places in you that are lost and hurt and find a gentle supportive way to guide you and help you return to your core. To regain balance in your life. This is the work I have done since 2005 with the Native American Community. I help those who are deeply traumatized, by events in their life, those who have suffered abuse, neglect and grief.

As a theoretical orientation, Amy utilizes an integrative, person-centered, & psychodynamic approach to create a framework of attachment theory, family systems, expressive-arts, creative parenting, mindfulness (meditation, visualization, breathwork, & intuition), parts work, psychoeducation, & emotion regulation tools from DBT (self-soothing & co-soothing).
With compassion, an open heart, & inclusivity, Amy helps people expand their potential by creating a personal roadmap to their emotional health & wellbeing. Listening, acknowledgement, & building trust are key ingredients to her approach. Amy tunes into the client in each moment of every session to understand what they are experiencing to help them get their needs met. Attachment wounding can be a part of many people's childhoods and those experiences often present now. Many times, reparenting occurs through the therapy process and results in a corrective experience, bringing peacefulness & healing...to feel whole again.

In our work, I also draw from attachment theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), & somatic modalities to help you reach your therapeutic goals.
As you enter counseling, I want to applaud you for having the courage to embrace growth and vulnerability. You may be feeling stuck, withdrawn, or emotionally overwhelmed. It can be cathartic and healing to address wounds that leave us feeling disconnected. Therapy can help build a deeper connection to yourself and others, gain awareness, and develop a stronger foundation to live a life you desire. I currently have immediate openings and enjoy working with individuals ages 15+ and dyadic relationships of all structures.

I integrate a biopsychosocial approach, considering clients’ overall well-being and interpersonal connections, applying evidence-based practices such as IFS, BA, and CBT, and the Gottman Method.
We experience many changes and challenges, such as relocation, growing within relationships, parenthood, or changes in education, career or employment status. Loss comes in many forms, and grief looks different for each individual. Therapy is a way to navigate these challenges, to grow self-awareness and coping skills, and to find meaning in the unexpected, while exploring the external and internal factors that influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

I am available to help you heal, navigate relationships and transitions, and discover why you may face the same challenges again and again. If you feel trapped, uneasy or stalled in making decisions, I can help. The stresses of life squeeze our ability to think clearly and feel at the same time. As a result, our emotions rule us, resulting in depression, anxiety, anger, and relationship difficulties. I use evidence based practices, such as ACT and DBT to help clients regulate their emotions and reach their goals.

Have you been feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or any other difficult emotion? Have you been struggling to get through the days or facing more difficulties in your relationships? Sometimes we encounter challenges that test our ability to live well. And sometimes we find ourselves in a place of feeling stuck, not sure how to move forward but knowing that something needs to change. I work with clients who are seeking to heal and grow in their understanding of themselves so that they can live the life they want.

I use a relational and trauma-informed approach, drawing upon evidence-based models such as attachment theory, emotion focused therapy, and family systems theory.
We all experience suffering, distress, or relational difficulty at different points in our lives. I work from a Christian worldview and believe that healing and growth take place within supportive relationships. Thus, I seek to offer you a safe and trusted space to process the vulnerable parts of your story. We will collaboratively explore relationships and patterns that have influenced current behaviors, thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. The goal will be to uncover the root causes of your concerns and address past wounds that keep you stuck and hold you back from the flourishing and wholeness you were created for.

Whether you are experiencing an especially difficult season or just want to learn more about why you get caught in painful, repetitive cycles, together we can explore what brings you to therapy and your personal goals for healing. Current neurobiology shows us that through a healthy therapeutic relationship we can learn new ways to relate to ourselves and others, enabling us to heal from past hurts and live into our full selves. I provide a welcome space for childen, adults, and couples to explore what is hurting them and to open up a path to deeper connection, meaning, and joy.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
