I am EMDR trained and also use IFS/parts work, DBT, and an attachment-based framework.
Hi, I’m Rachel. I believe that everyone has the capacity for healing. My goal as a therapist is to help you find safety and stability within yourself and in the world around you. I provide a warm, nonjudgmental approach to support adults and college-aged adults, teens, and children in managing life and relationship stress, anxiety, depression, school issues, and trauma. My work with clients often includes exploring how present challenges are connected to our past experiences.

I work with children ages 3-18, families, and individuals using brain-based and solution-focused methods to support them through issues related to anxiety, stress, trauma, depression, and challenging behavior. I use a strength-based approach to shift environmental factors to build social competence and positive outcomes. I combine systems theory, CBT, and neuroscience to tailor a hands-on approach to create change in the home and school settings.

As a resident in counseling I believe that mental health is essential aspect of a person’s holistic health, and it is as important to work on as a person’s physical health. Healthy people manage their behaviors, emotions, and thoughts in functional stable manner, many people are not taught the skills necessary to do this. By providing a positive and supportive setting we can work together to create healthier ways of functioning in the world you live or perform in!

Some gentle reminders: It's not too late for you + Having feelings means you are human + Not everyone will understand you + You deserve to heal from the things that weren't your fault + You don't have to abandon yourself to be loved + Your sensitivity is a strength, not a flaw + You can (learn to) trust yourself (again). My therapy style is intuitive, imaginative, soulful, and authentic. I practice under the supervision of Lila Heymann, LCSW.

I use child-centered play therapy, Internal Family Systems therapy, and other techniques according to the unique goals of my clients.
Counseling is a journey towards integration. I'm here to help you overcome anxiety or depression, traumas of any kind, or if you are simply looking for someone to listen to you and provide a non-judgmental and accepting place for you to process life's experiences. I profoundly believe that you do not enter therapy "broken" or that clients need to be "fixed". By learning self-compassion and acceptance, most of our struggles can be understood as manifestations or behaviors that follow from wounds or traumas. The journey is about healing and transformation, rather than getting over something.

These include certificates in Child Centered Play Therapy, certificate in Relationship Enhancement® for couples and families, and training in both IFS and Filial Family Therapy.
I have come to see relationship as a key factor in helping clients to flourish. Whether that is a child growing in relationship with their parents and peers through play therapy, couples and family members developing greater love and understanding for each other, or even an individual cultivating a healthy relationship with their own thoughts and feelings I seek to cultivate an attitude of curiosity and acceptance of both internal experiences and experiences with others. In doing so, the factors that are preventing healthy interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships are removed to allow greater gift of self.

In therapy, I often use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients achieve greater insight into parts of themselves that may be contributing to self-defeating thoughts or feelings.
I have a special interest in working with individuals struggling with family relational issues, trauma/PTSD, body image/eating disorders, and anxiety/depression. I help clients overcome tough generational patterns that are hard to break and often stem from one's family of origin. Many of my clients have been through some form of trauma and are in need of a supportive presence to help them process their pain and validate their feelings. No matter your reason for counseling, my goal is to help you grow and restore a greater sense of empowerment and peace to your life.

Utilizing a compassionate and client-centered approach, sessions will draw from evidence-based modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS)/parts work, breathwork, and somatic movement to regulate the nervous system, I assist clients in exploring deeper layers of their psyche and integrating fragmented aspects of their identity.
Are you ready to honor the mind-body connection to healing? I offer a unique approach to healing trauma and emotional pain through mindful somatic movement and breathwork. I emphasize the profound connection between the body and emotional experiences, highlighting that trauma is stored not just in the mind but also in the body's tissues and nervous system. Through this approach, I believe individuals can access their inner wisdom and facilitate healing by listening to their bodies with compassion and curiosity.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
