I also rely on family systems and attachment theories to strengthen relationships.
When you go through something in your life that changes the way you view yourself, others, and your beliefs about the world, it can feel traumatic. I'm a trauma specialist, so I'm here to hold a safe space for you to work through some of the life defining moments you've experienced. I'm here to help you make meaning of what you've gone through, and go from simply surviving to thriving. We can be structured in routine or change approach often, and decide between in-person, telehealth, or a mix. It's your call.

Through EMDR, Trauma Model Therapy, Story Work, Internal Family Systems, Attachment healing and other modalities, I guide clients through allowing their own brain to heal itself from past trauma and open pathways to a healthier present and future.
Do you find yourself sitting amongst the ashes of charred dreams seeking ways to find meaning in the mess? Do you feel hopeless, or helpless, triggered from past harm? Do you have the nagging sensation there is more goodness to be found in life? These negative experiences do not have to prevent you from living with delight, freedom and pleasure. Together, we can reframe your story through a counseling relationship. I believe sitting with another person to explore their story, and their perceptions related to those stories, can redeem broken places, restore vitality, and reveal hope for the future. You can experience healing.

As a therapist, I primarily utilize Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems to help clients learn about themselves and break away from their problems.
Life is hard and sometimes it feels impossible to know what the next step is. Anxiety, depression, frustration with loved ones... sometimes it can feel like it's too much to handle. If you feel overwhelmed, I can walk with you through the pain and together we can establish a new and healthy normal. I will create a safe space where you feel comfortable telling your story no matter what it is.

I use Internal Family Systems (parts work), Somatic/Attachment Focused-EMDR (trauma reprocessing), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (mindful coping skills), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (identifying thoughts), Person-Centered Theory (respect of your process), & Jungian Psychotherapy (shadow work).
I believe each of us is on our own "hero's journey" through life. My ideal client is someone who feels lost, anxious or fearful in their journey and yearns to understand the path towards their deepest self and higher calling. This is a spiritual journey as much as it is a practical one. Therapy is not an easy "fix" for the issues along your journey, but it is a helpful place to address underlying roots that cause disconnection and inner conflict within yourself. My ideal client is someone who is eager to explore the issues that blind them from finding their life path once again, or maybe for the first time.

Through IFS, attachment work, mindfulness and somatic based approaches, I help my clients feel calm in their bodies, unburden past traumas, work through their relationship hangups, and find their truest, most whole Self, that was there all along.
Your anxiety is sucking the life out of you. Maybe you find yourself constantly doubting everything you say and do. You have this awful voice inside that tells you something is fundamentally wrong with you... that you’re not good enough, or smart enough, or worthy enough, despite how hard you try to shut it up. Your relationships feels superficial. You overthink and stay small, because feeling lonely at least feels less scary than being rejected. But you hate that feeling too...so the cycle continues. There's a nagging feeling like how you grew up has something to do with this.

I combine traditional therapeutic models like CBT, DBT, and IFS with holistic, mindfulness based and collaborative approaches.
Hi there! I’m Susana. My passion for mental health work comes from my own experiences trying to reclaim my identity while navigating life’s obstacles. Our life experiences, culture, background, and relationship with ourselves and our mental health are incredibly unique and personal. This is why I enjoy getting to know my clients and finding an approach that works best for their needs rather than sticking to a “one size fits all” approach.

IFS provides a compassionate approach to healing our internal world, and that translates into changes in our thoughts, feelings and beliefs in our daily life.
I have been working as a therapist for over 30 years and I love what I do. While I've employed numerous treatment modalities over the years, I'm currently focused on the Internal Family Systems model (IFS). I see therapy as a collaborative process where you can explore your behavior, beliefs, and feelings about yourself and the challenges in your life without judgement or criticism. Therapy is a place to challenge negative and anxious thoughts that might be controlling you. In therapy you can get to know what drives your old patterns and behaviors, which allows them to change and transform in the present.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
