My approach to therapy is an integration of person-centered therapy, psychodynamic theory, trauma informed IFS, and attachment theory.
Do you find yourself getting stuck in the same relationship patterns over and over again? Do you find yourself doing everything in your power to discontinue previous relational patterns and behaviors? Are you struggling with self-doubt, low-self-esteem, and painful self-criticism that seems to be holding you back? My approach to therapy looks at these patterns and behaviors through the lens of parts work. This allows us to separate the self (you), from the parts that struggle with self-doubt, and from the parts that persist in repeating unhealthy relationships and behavioral patterns.

I am informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), therapy focused on helping clients identify and connect with different, sometimes unknown, parts of themselves.
Are you looking to improve your relationship to food and your body? Are you looking to form a more intentional and caring relationship with yourself? Are you looking to express your authentic feelings, needs, and desires? Many who struggle with issues around food and body image also have past experiences of shame, pain, and trauma, which can lead to feeling a disconnection, resentment, or lack of safety within your own body. If you’ve been getting through each day in survival mode and are looking to engage in life more meaningfully but not sure where to start? I am here to help you begin your journey toward self-acceptance.

Couples and individuals seeking therapy deserve tremendous respect. In my work with relationships, I offer Emotion Focus Therapy (EFT) to help both partners to get unstuck from the repetitive patterns of emotional disconnect, that lead to fights or deadening silence. As a couples' therapist with an advanced training in Gottman therapy, I integrate it in my work when needed. My approach to individual treatment is Internal Family Systems (IFS) where you get to know your inner world, become more present, less reactive, and more capable of self-healing. I work both with monogamous and consensual non-monogamous relationships.

My counseling approach integrates Cognitive-behavioral, Existential theory, and the Internal Family Systems model. I believe that we are drawn towards our personal version of authenticity. Getting to know yourself can be a transcendental experience, and it lays the foundation for creating healthy connections with others. I am always drawn back to the phrase in the safety video before a plane takes off: put your own oxygen mask on before helping others. We cannot build strong relationships with others until we build a solid foundation with ourselves.

In addition to IFS, I integrate somatic and mindfulness work, as well as use evidence based Gottman Method techniques.
Sometimes in life we feel disconnected from ourselves and the people we love most. We feel a strong desire for change whether we know exactly what that change is yet or not. At times that change is forced upon us due to a loss of some kind in which we find ourselves grieving and in pain. Or the change we want feels unacceptable and risky. As a therapist, I believe in the transformative power of change. I believe we all possess internal wisdom and the ability to change in ways that are needed and desired. I am also aware that change can be scary and feel impossible at times.

You deserve to feel well; Let's get you there. Our work together is designed to cultivate greater contentment in your life. We all experience challenge, often around our relationships, our work, our health, and caring for our children and loved ones. These experiences can provoke anxiety, fear and uncertainty. Having a safe, nonjudgmental space in which to work through these moments can be profoundly helpful and often facilitate swifter resolution. I am trained in a wide number of modalities including EMDR, IFS (Internal Family Systems) Relational and Psychodynamic psychotherapy, among others.

With this in mind, I use an integrative frame drawing from psychodynamic, mindfulness and IFS approaches.
I provide attuned and empathic psychotherapy to individuals and groups, offering a warm, curious, creative and even humorous space. I believe the dynamic between client and therapist is one of our most valuable assets in therapy. Each individual brings their own perception of their needs and worldview, so I place great focus on identity, culture, and environment for this space to not only process personal struggles but to also combat oppressive exteriors that compromise our wellbeing. With compassion, energy and curiosity, I show up to meet you where you are to support and hold space for you to feel safe and seen.

I utilize a variety of techniques and therapeutic approaches (always trauma-informed) and am trained in Level 1 Internal Family Systems (IFS).
You are looking to better understand how your intersecting identities (racial, gender, sexuality, etc) & oppressive systems (racism, patriarchy, capitalism, etc) impact your daily lived experiences. You want to, in a safe space, heal and address traumas that stayed with you. You are interested in learning what narratives are limiting your growth, and in replacing them with liberating, nurturing beliefs about yourself. I work closely with members from the BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other oppressed communities. I have extensive experience supporting folks working through cultural, generational, and other differences/gaps with loved ones.

I incorporate mindfulness and compassion-based modes of treatment, along with internal family systems, interpersonal neurobiology, and emotionally-focused therapy.
I provide therapy to individuals, couples, and families, both virtually and in-person. Many of my clients come to therapy to address self-identity and purpose, family relationships (couples, parents, adult siblings), spiritual/religious questions, struggles with self-esteem, acute and chronic grief, sexuality/gender identity issues, and a desire to find a life that is meaningful and in alignment with their values. Articulating a coherent narrative for one's life is a task of deepest import, and therapy, I believe, is a uniquely relevant space to pursue that quest.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
