My approach to therapy is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and other trauma-informed interventions like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I believe strongly in the resilience of people, and that a healthy therapeutic relationship can promote trust, healing, and personal growth. I believe that successful therapy is predicated on having a strong therapeutic alliance; the connection and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist. Taking a strength-based perspective, I listen deeply and reflectively to sustain a non-judgmental and safe environment. I am passionate about helping clients fully process past experiences and thrive in relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.

I come from a trauma-informed, somatic, social justice, internal family systems (IFS), and Buddhist perspective, and I specialize in supporting marginalized groups (BIPOC, AAPI, LGBTQ+, immigrants).
You’re looking for relief and real change. It may appear like you have it all together, but on the inside you feel doubtful, burdened, unfulfilled, and stressed. Maybe you’re caught between different cultures, struggling with your identity and finding your place in the world. You might be carrying the trauma of your past or family history and seeing the impacts at work, home, and in your body and relationships. Maybe you're deeply worried about the state of the world and don't know how to move forward meaningfully. Even in your free time, you may find it difficult to truly relax and rest, your sense of pleasure and purpose depleted.

It's inevitable that one's emotional life will get tangled at times. It's a sign of maturity and resilience to be willing to look inside with curiosity and do some self-development work. My interest and joy is empowering my clients to learn practical, applicable skills to mindfully manage unwanted patterns and cultivate new ones. My approach often uses mindfulness to create a more spacious, patient, and compassionate response to moods, emotions and thoughts. Cognitive therapy is wonderful way to actively re-program our thinking, and we might use yoga skills to tune the body, mind and nervous system to work for you, not against you.

Please inquire for accurate availability...What creates disconnection in the ways that we relate to ourselves and others is not always obvious; often, conventional knowledge can lead us astray from the kind of work that could truly help us. To this end, my approach goes beyond coping strategies and attachment styles; I view the therapy process as a specific kind of attending to your experiences and your internal world with the aim of developing inner resources and widening perspective. Broadly, I specialize in psychodynamic/psychoanalytic approaches. However, my approach is tailored non-generically to each client.

For some, one of the hardest things to do in life is ask for help. Often times, we are conditioned from a young age to believe that asking for help, especially with our mental health, is a sign of weakness in strength or character. That message, along with several other factors, lays the foundation for days, weeks, months, or years spent struggling with trauma and/or various emotional, behavioral, social, or relational issues. I will empower and encourage you at every step to make the changes you want and need.

I can integrate somatic practices to help you connect with your body and the felt sense, with practices rooted in IFS, Franklin Method, and trauma-informed movement.
Do you ever find yourself facing the same challenges, repeating patterns, or feeling stuck in your life? It’s like there’s a hidden script influencing your actions and emotions, and you can’t quite put your finger on it. This could feel like lack of self confidence, feeling sad or fearful, relationship challenges, or physical pain. I work with couples and individuals to understand how past relationships and events influence the challenges of today. By understanding the “how”, we cultivate a profound self-awareness that empowers you to find new ways of being and feeling that better serve you.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
