Depending on the needs of my client, I may pull from EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Strengths Based Therapy, Mindfulness, Solutions Focused Therapy, Harm Reduction, and Depth Psychology.
I’m Rita and I’m glad you’re here! I have advanced training in and specialize in PTSD, Developmental Trauma, and Attachment. Trauma can create global effects on the mind and body, and I work hard, alongside my clients, to remove trauma blocks from their path, in order to clear the way towards the bold lives that they have dreamed for themselves. I utilize EMDR and Somatic Experiencing to help my clients work somatically to heal trauma stored in the body.

I am certified in Internal Family Systems.
I offer clients warmth, compassion, and gentleness: Whatever is hard for you right now is welcomed in a space that allows you to be accepted completely for who you are. I provide therapy for adults who struggle with the impact of childhood emotional injury, relational wounding, loneliness, trauma, parenthood challenges, divorce, career struggles, marriage issues, grief, anxiety, and depression. Unresolved hurts show up as restlessness, sleeplessness, negative self-beliefs, loss of purpose, panic, anger, anxiety, and/or depression. Together we will create opportunities for healing, self-discovery and connection to a fulfilling life.

I am both trauma and IFS informed and utilize a humanistic, feminist as well as a client centered/depth approach.
My hope is to cultivate a therapeutic environment that is authentic, empathetic, non-judgmental and filled with compassionate curiosity. I view therapy as a collaborative process that encourages personal growth, self-compassion, and empowerment in the areas that are important to you. As an art therapist, if interested, I can incorporate the art making process as a restorative tool to increase insight in nonverbal forms of expression while expanding your own imaginative capabilities. My desire is to provide a safe space to explore past experiences and traumas while creatively working towards healing and growth.

I focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Solution-Focused models.
“If you want to go quickly, go alone. But, if you want to go far, go together.” Life is like an arena, and sometimes we want to throw in the towel. Sometimes we don’t see ourselves where we want to be in our lives or careers. We have habits we can’t break. Our relationships leave us frustrated. Or they don’t exist at all. We’re tired, lonely, and overwhelmed. Maybe it seems like the only one to blame is ourselves. But… We Always Have A Choice! It’s my mission to help you learn to take the reins of your life. Together, we will maximize your chances for success, your sense of fulfillment, and your freedom to choose for yourself.

My background is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Family Systems, and Integrative Problem-centered Therapy, which allows for a versatile approach to developing personalized care.
I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families get "unstuck" from challenging relationship dynamics. I walk alongside clients as they navigate major and minor life transitions and the shift in identity that often accompanies these milestone moments. I provide support during the highs and lows. I recognize that while people may be able to handle it all on their own, they should not have to do it all by themselves. I help to empower adults and adolescents as they adjust to change and learn to embrace new skills and new perspectives on themselves and their relationships with others.

My hope is that together we can find the way through to heal and create a life you want to live. I think of my role as a guide offering a new perspective. A light in the dark. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and grief.

I am actively attuned and engaged with clients and use an integrative approach, drawing when appropriate from a range of lenses (Psychodynamic, Jungian, Internal Family Systems, and Object Relations). While I am trained and experienced in cognitively-based therapies (CBT), I thrive when using depth approaches, because I am passionate about guiding individuals toward new levels self-awareness. The process often results in psychological maturation and improvements in inner life and relationships.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
