I provide therapy and assessment services to individuals from young children through young adults. Services provided include diagnostic and comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations, as well as treatment in individual and group formats. I provide treatment for individuals with a variety of presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, and challenging behaviors. I have a particular interest in working with families and children around issues related to adoption and have completed a certification in Clinical Issues in Adoption developed jointly by the CT Department of Children and Families, the UCONN School of Social Work, and Southern CT State University.

Dr. Avon attended Stony brook U. There she trained under the late Dr. Edward Carr in Behavioral Therapy, with a focus on, Applied Behavioral Analysis. She then continued her education at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. There she spent many years under the supervision of Dr. Charles Golden refining her skills in Neuropsychology serving a variety of children with learning disorders and developmental disabilities. After completing graduate school, Dr. Avon pursued further training in the areas of Autism Spectrum Disorders and other Developmental Disabilities.

Children's developing brains and the many supports naturally built into their lives (parents, siblings, teachers, etc.) make them perfect candidates for intervention when they are experiencing difficulty. I am most adept at working with children with developmental delays/disorders, anxiety, learning difficulties, behavioral issues, and executive functioning deficits (such as attention difficulties).

I perform psychoeducational testing in the form of neuropsychological evaluations, assessment of learning disorders (including ADHD), social/emotional evaluations, autism evaluations, and personality assessments to facilitate treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults. Assessments are individualized in order to develop a greater understanding of each person and how they can expand on their strengths and overcome their weaknesses. I also provide therapy, utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques, while being mindful of how early attachment experiences influence later relationships.
