I like to think I have a unique skill set coupled with life experience that equips me to be a dynamic therapist. I served as a Marine in the military, spent 20 years working in the pathology field looking at healing the body and now work with clients from 5 years to older adult healing the mind. Therapy is difficult to navigate and can feel messy for the whole system (friends, family, work, school, and more). I value your experience and how that has shaped core beliefs. Because we have these core beliefs, doesn't make them true. Let's assign new rules to these beliefs and heal the system as a whole both in body and mind.

At times we need an outside perspective, and maybe just someone to listen to us, when life seems hard or complicated. My counseling style is warm, friendly, and, above all, genuine. I use a holistic/integrative therapy approach; in order to tailor treatment to each client's needs, I tend to pull from various tenets and modalities of evidence-based therapies. I focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and understand the mind-body connection; I am also trained in EMDR for trauma treatment.

My ideal client’s issues are experiencing adjustment disorder, depression, issues with their career, sexuality and children/teens with behavioral Issues that may come from an underlying issue such as depression, abandonment, or an intellectual or developmental delay.

Relationships are hard. The stresses of everyday life tend to throw curveballs that can cause conflict even in the healthiest of relationships. I'm a Pediatrician by training, who has spent the last decade helping children and their families with behavioral health issues (ADHD, anxiety, depression, etc). I take pride in developing a comfortable working relationship with my patients and their parents, which increases the probability of reaching our goals as fast as possible during their crucial developmental years. I have over 20 years’ experience with adoptive families, children, and attachment. I am passionate about helping family, parents, and children navigate BIG changes in healthy ways. I understand first hand, being a parent of 6 beautiful adopted children myself, the challenges, emotions, fears, and successes that can come up along the way. I am skilled in attachment & view this as critical to understanding how people develop and navigate relationships. I consider myself an expert in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and can spot these symptoms and behaviors in both children and adults. Early intervention is KEY to successful outcomes.

Typically, individuals she works with range in age from 3 to 18-years-old. However, Dr. Black has expanded her practice to work with adults ranging in age from 18 to 45-years-old.

Therapy & Assessment Center (TAC) is a place for clients to find indiviudal purpose and family healing. We treat children (starting at 3 years-old). TAC offers a creative enviroment for children to address emotional and behavior issues through play therapy and behavior modification. TAC has an amazing sensory-based play therapy room that your children will love. TAC takes the time to teach parents creative parenting techniques to use at home. TAC also treats teens and adults of all ages.
