My favorite part of being a therapist is collaborating with folks as they become more and more themselves. So much can get in the way. Layers of protection that dull emotional expression and receptiveness; adaptations to anxiety and trauma that make forward movement hard; difficult relational experiences keeping us stuck in unhelpful patterns; chronic low self-esteem that makes it hard to see ourselves clearly; familial/social/cultural expectations and influences can elicit confusion, and depression can dull connection to everything/anything - to ourselves, as much as to others.
Humans seem to have seasons as nature does - sometimes it’s spring, summer..sometimes winter. Each of these can be stressful. Often, we live as if we can put off changing. As we if we can put off our wishes, needs, dreams. Please don’t! Of course, there’s a place for process. The important thing is to be walking the path, one foot in front of the other.
As a therapist, I’m light-hearted and deep, practical and nurturing. Sound contradictory?! My approach is grounded in compassion.
