Are you seeking a culturally sensitive therapist who will not make stereotypical assumptions, but will honor your unique story, history and journey? Have you been told that therapy is for the weak or for those whose faith is not strong enough? Are you looking for a place where you can feel safe enough to say everything you need to without feeling as though you need to take care of the therapist?

Hi, I'm Jenna! As a therapist, I aim to create a safe space for you to be vulnerable throughout your journey of self-exploration and acceptance. We will work together to develop new coping skills and approaches to achieve the changes you wish to see in your life. Therapy is a journey that may be difficult and uncomfortable at times, but it is often in discomfort where we see the most change.

Only accepting new clients for Neuroqueer Connections virtual group at this time. I’m passionate about supporting people along their healing journeys and paths of self-discovery. I don’t believe we seek out therapy because we are “flawed” or because we need to be “fixed.” Instead, I view therapy as a powerful act of self-care when navigating challenging systems, -isms, circumstances and relationships. My own lived experience as a neurodivergent Korean adoptee drives my commitment to practicing from a place that holds space for - and celebrates- each person’s multiple and intersecting identities.

I work broadly with young adults who often have bicultural backgrounds and are experiencing personal issues with themselves, family or relationships. It is a difficult balancing act between you, those close to you and differing cultural norms. Finding autonomy when the expectations of others sometimes burdens us, can lead to feeling anxious, alone or depressed. You can lose yourself to these feelings at times, which is why 1-on-1 therapy is a healthy approach to process these emotions.Family and friends may suggest or want vastly different things than you. In therapy, I will listen while giving you the tools you need for your goals.

I see therapy as a process of discovery where, together, we come to understand and address the issues you struggle with. As I gradually get to know you I will listen for patterns and gaps in your story, which are usually meaningful. In this confidential process I will be a committed and supportive ally to you, someone who listens carefully and considers the things you are facing in their context, including the larger family and cultural background. My approach is informed by a psychoanalytic perspective and my style is empathic but also real. The clients I see usually struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or relationships.

You've focused so much on career (and successfully so) that some of the other major pieces of life that you just assumed would fall into place have...well...they just HAVEN'T. I founded The Keely Group (Online Therapy NYC) in 2016 to offer virtual to people whose lives "look great on paper" but are missing something important. Perhaps that's a great romantic partner or close friendships; maybe it's some relief from the chronic (albeit high-functioning) anxiety that keeps you up at night or some balance so as to enjoy the parts of your life that really are great. Regardless, we can help.

Strength doesn't always come from what you can do, but from overcoming the things you thought you couldn't do. I view therapy as a collaborative process through which one may discover more about oneself, their environment and navigating new beginnings. I strive to develop relationships rooted in trust by creating a safe, warm, and judgement-free environment. My approach integrates elements of cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic therapy models to help my clients better understand their past and improve their future.

Waitlist for new clients
I am currently accepting new sliding scale clients! You can apply for a slot on my website if you are eligible. While I specialize in OCD and alleviating repetitive thoughts, I also support clients to overcome shame, toxic relationships, eating disorders, depression, and other challenges. I take a lot of inspiration from Jungian psychology- where we may feel the need to put on a mask and perform in society based on the labels we are given and hide who we truly are. Together, we will create a personalized space - where you can feel liberated to explore who you are and meet your goals without having any masks on.

Our shared cycle of human life confronts us with issues longing to be addressed in the here and now, even as rooted in the past or in a sense of unrealized potentials. We do best in engaging such concerns, including the end of life itself, when our explorations occur in an open and activating dialogical process. Additional to the interpersonal process of therapy, our dreams and our engagement with what transcends us, often provide us with the guidance needed to move forward in our living process in a renewed and dynamic manner. Collaboratively and with mutuality, this is the service I am privileged to offer.

When I first meet clients, I encourage them to be fascinated by the way their mind works. An ideal component of a successful therapy is when clients become curious about themselves, which allows them to gain insight into their problems. I personally believe, based on my research and experience, that what the human mind concentrates on has an influence on what happens in one's life. By watching the patterns of our thoughts we can modify and redirect them, with the goal of making healthier and more life-affirming decisions. The human mind has evolved to focus on problems and to anticipate more of them in the future.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
