The importance of relationships within our daily lives is often overlooked or forgotten when we struggle. Focusing on relationships, I use personal interaction to promote healing inside and outside of the therapeutic setting. Through the use of video conferencing, I work with individuals and couples who struggle in areas such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief, as well as family and couples relational dynamics. My treatment style integrates compassion, support, and humor to build resiliency through self-regulation, encourage growth, and promote self-discovery.

Do you feel depressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of which direction to take your relationships, your job, or your life? Are these feelings holding you back from living the life you truly want? I love joining with my clients to explore these barriers and working to overcome them to create peace, health and happiness. Through skill building and meaningful conversation, you can move forward. In my practice, counseling can include humor; both laughter and tears are important parts of healing and growing. While I certainly respect that serious matters are discussed in therapy, we can usually find ways to enjoy our progress.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for 40 years. Throughout all of my years in practice, I have been amazed by the resilience of the human spirit. I work with clients who have endured and survived traumatic histories or devastating losses, and are now presenting with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Complex PTSD. Recovery from trauma is hard work, but with support, effective therapeutic tools, and the commitment to recover, I believe healing is possible.

Do you notice patterns of behavior that you’d like to explore further? Feel dissatisfied with the way things are currently in your life? By drawing from interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral (ie. CBT and ACT), and psychodynamic modalities, I empower clients to gain insight, define goals, and develop skills/tools to live meaningful lives consistent with their values. I see psychotherapy as an interactive process that can promote insight, create positive change, and foster growth. I also bring this perspective into my work with couples and families. I can provide couples/ family psychotherapy as well as discernment counseling.

Therapy can address difficult situations but it is also helpful with normal problems in the normal course of life. I believe therapy helps to relieve painful and uncomfortable feelings and it can be a journey of self discovery and awareness that will lead to a more fulfilling life. People begin working with me when they are having difficulty adjusting to a current life situation and others seek to address their struggles with depression, anxiety, or relationships.

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
