My goal is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where my clients can explore their work, relationship and life challenges with a thoughtful and empathic therapist. I listen carefully and am skilled in helping my clients make sense of their current situations, and environmental, cultural, interpersonal and emotional experiences they bring to me.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with 25 years in practice. I seek to provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment in which clients can explore their struggles and how to best address them, in order to experience more peace and live more authentically. I employ a variety of techniques to achieve these goals, including CBT, psychoanalytic, coping strategies, family systems and most importantly, Rogerian based humanistic treatment. My belief about therapy is that it should be client centered; that every person is unique, and should be treated as an individual.

When I worked in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, I made it a point to meet with patients before reading their chart. As a clinical supervisor of graduate-level social work students, I emphasized the importance of listening without the cloud of a diagnosis and repeated histories. Emotions need to be heard, whether in the form of fierce opinions or protective language. This can happen, in conversation, if the therapist is able to shed or expose known competing biases.

I am experienced in helping clients recapture the person they previously were. Many clients say to me, "I just want to go back to being the person I used to be", and that's exactly what we focus on. Clients also often say to me, "I just don't know what to do or what I want", and we work together until we figure out how to alleviate their confusion. We achieve this in various ways, most often through exploration of the presenting issues, examination of past relationships and significant experiences as well as decision-making and behavioral patterns.

I have worked in various professional settings through direct practice and in social advocacy. I have worked alongside state non-profits in child welfare, as well as school base counseling and outpatient clinics.

I am a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology. I'm psychodynamically oriented, while at the same time I am direct and interactive in my approach. My focus is on correcting maladaptive behaviors and identifying the unconscious processes and irrational beliefs which underlie them. My expertise is in helping persons who are depressed, anxious, experiencing loss, having relationship problems and/or concerns about sexual matters. I accept most insurance including Medicare.
