You're entirely powerless. You've begun isolating from your family. The shame is so deep that you're afraid to look them in the eye. They'll surely see the heavy secret you've been carrying. You've tried to be "good enough" for him, but the cycle of emotional abuse and manipulation is never-ending. You've begun to question your sanity. You made excuses for their behavior, his "moods". You've changed yourself to appease him and lost yourself in the process. You no longer recognize the woman in the mirror with her sad and tired eyes. You've disconnected from you friends and the things you once loved. You've lost who you are.

I am a psychological associate who is currently accepting new clients via telehealth services. I enjoy working with adults and women who are looking to be healthier mentally and develop skills to manage cognitive and emotional stresses and responses. An intention that I have is to aid clients in healing the relationship with themselves, whether because of experiences in childhood, unhealthy relationships or other significant life events that clients have encountered. All of these experiences can complicate the relationship with ourselves, but with a safe and supportive space like therapy, we can learn to grow, heal and repair.

Life can come at you pretty hard sometimes. Even when it’s not, sometimes things just aren’t working the way you want them to. Taking that first step and reaching out to ask for help can be one of the scariest yet strongest things you can do. Therapy has been transformative in my own life and I’m hoping it can help you too. My therapeutic approach starts with you. I believe you are your own best counselor, sometimes you just need help getting started or with where you might be stuck.

Human connection is vital to human survival. In a world where digital interaction has become the norm, loneliness is a pervasive condition. People who’ve experienced trauma, especially in family relationships, can find it difficult to develop fulfilling personal connections. Even surrounded by close friends and family, many of us still feel disconnected. Connecting with others on a physical and emotional level has proven to have a lasting impact on overall well-being.

You want to be confident, but deep down you are struggling. You feel overwhelmed by anxiety that takes over your decisions, behaviors, and how you view yourself. Maybe you feel like you aren’t good enough and it’s debilitating when you try to express how you’re feeling to others. Perhaps you have noticed that you’re neglecting yourself in order to please others, and you feel disconnected from your significant other, or you recently went through a breakup or other big life change and feel like everything that you had planned has gone out the window. You are left feeling hopeless, frustrated, and defeated.

Your relationship is falling apart. Your life isn't where you want it to be. You don't like who you see in the mirror. You’re feeling anxious, depressed, lost…maybe angry. Or perhaps confused because no matter what you do, things tend to stay the same. You should have the job, romance, and life you want. You’ve done everything you’re “supposed” to so what happened? Why are you still stuck?

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
