Seeking counseling is a brave decision that could be the first step towards living a happier, more fulfilling life. I work with couples who are dissatisfied with the quality of their relationship due to issues such as unresolvable conflicts, infidelity, complicated family dynamics, incompatibility, substance use, etc. I also see high school/ college students or young adults (Gen-Z and millennials) experiencing difficult life transitions, relationship issues, loneliness, issues of faith or spirituality, complicated family dynamics, etc. Whatever brings you here, I hope you find the hope and healing your soul desires.

Similarly, when infidelity occurs it is difficult to understand "why" it happened.
Are you searching for a counselor because it feels like your life is falling apart? Well, you are not alone. You may have experienced a difficult childhood and convinced yourself “It’s in the past…It was no big deal.” Except, it is a big deal because, the past affects our present. Shame convinces individuals that they are bad instead of understanding that something bad happened. Having a counselor that can listen with an open mind and heart, and validate your pain is a start. I too have been where you are. I know how to walk beside you in your journey of healing and restoration.

Trying to figure out how the puzzle pieces of life fit together is not easy. Relationships can be a beast. I will work with you to identify what’s most important to you while crystallizing your relationship goals in a manner that empowers you to incorporate actual skills into your everyday life and relationship. For example, improving communication, exploring intimacy, and the art of letting go of past traumas can allow you to discover what works for your unique relationship. Embrace the healing process, learn to set healthy boundaries, and communicate from a place of love.

Our wounds are the very place where meaningful wholeness and growth can begin. In over 30 years of private practice with individuals, couples and families, I have engaged deeply in the varied ways people set out to heal. Families in crisis appreciate the active way I connect with and engage all parties in the process of change. Helping couples learn to listen with curiosity rather than react in the "same old way", more deeply understand each other, reach forgiveness or acceptance, and open up possibilities regarding desire and intimacy are all strengths in my work.

You may be facing a broken relationship, suffering from disordered eating or body image concerns, have a history of sexual abuse or trauma, be living with or recovering from a serious illness, or be experiencing depression or anxiety. There is hope!

Life can present many challenges. Some can be years of trauma, some painful grief, and others are transitions, such as losing a career, lifestyle change, loss of a friend or family member or an identity crisis. While those challenges can seem daunting, there is hope for enjoyment and vitality on the other side of those circumstances. Get a bird's eye view, full of nurture and support, while being challenged to go outside of your comfort zone and to experience life without the pain. Get past your hurt and hindrances, and gain emotional freedom, healthy relationships and peace of mind.

Are you overwhelmed, anxious, sad or feel like you're not sure how to navigate a new territory of your life? Do you need help in setting healthy boundaries or coping with stress, anxiety? Or perhaps a past trauma is beginning to surface? I truly believe our darkest wounds lose power and we begin to heal when we shed light on them. My goal is to provide support and insight to help you identify your own strengths and get your life back on track with appropriate coping strategies and perhaps new boundaries.

Why therapy? There are many answers to this question. It's a question I will ask when we first begin and you may or may not fully know the answer. If you are unsure at first, that’s okay. I promise we will figure it out together and by the end of our work you will have discovered why therapy was exactly what you needed in this moment of your life. And if you come to me knowing exactly what you need and why therapy is the way forward, I promise we will work very hard together so that you achieve what you desire.

Therapeutically, Stan uses the metaphor that life is like a hiking trail. It has ups and downs, easy stretches and difficult inclines, rewarding sights, and gut-wrenching days when it feels like the rain is following us specifically. Using a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Constructivist Narrative Therapy, Stan works alongside his client, not only to understand patterns of behavior and how to adjust them, but also to dive deeper and uncover the strength and resilience every human is capable of.

Despite your best efforts, things just aren’t going how you hoped. Life changes can make you feel like there’s a crack in the foundation that’s hard to find and repair. It’s frustrating, confusing, discouraging. The longer it goes on, the less confident you feel in your life and your relationships. You’re not alone, and it’s not too late. Chances are that a little help at the right time might be just what makes the life you’re building feel more like the home you hoped for.

Do you long for increased understanding, improved communication, and deeper connection with your partner? Are you arguing more and enjoying each other less? Is the romance gone? Are you concerned about your child's mood or behavior? Does he/she seem anxious or depressed? Are you worried that you may repeat destructive patterns from your childhood? Would you like to improve communication with your child? Or, are you interested in working through your own individual unresolved issues or situational problems? Would you like to learn healthier coping skills, let go of self-defeating patterns, and move toward your full potential?

Infidelity Therapists

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
