We've all learned or received tools to help us walk through life personally and relationally. Sometimes the tools we've learned need tweaking, other times we need some new tools we didn't know existed. If you find yourself stuck I would love to walk through a chapter of your journey with you to discover what tools might help you move on to the next chapter. My Christian faith has been instrumental through seasons of difficulty and can be incorporated into therapy for those that desire that.

My therapeutic intervention is looking at the past as necessary in making changes for the future. I'm certain that any unwanted behavior can be unlocked by recognizing the purpose or wanted outcome for said behavior and my passion is helping you identify that unmet need and make healthy changes. I enjoy working with clients that are willing to do things outside of the therapeutic office setting such as writing, art, and/or practicing skills learned, and then reporting back in session the helpfulness of each strategy.

Each person is on a unique life journey. I look forward to learning where you are on your journey and how I can help you create the life you desire. It is not about dwelling on the past but about using life lessons to move forward in a positive way. Even our most difficult life experiences bring us wisdom, character and integrity. We have no blueprint or guide for how to manage our lives and minds during COVID-19. We can work together to restore equilibrium and create a sense of safety, calm, and control over your life using various evidence based treatments including mindfulness practice, EMDR, CBT, DBT skills. and psychoeducation.

Our experiences, positive and negative, shape how we think, feel, and participate in the world. Sometimes we can end up in a place where we feel depressed or anxious, have difficulty in relationships, or lack a sense of identity. I strive to provide a space where all of the things that leave you feeling stuck are welcomed as essential to the process of healing. I will collaborate with you to help manage overwhelming feelings, integrate traumatic experiences, and discover important patterns.

Counseling is an important way to invest in your health and future. For some, counseling can be a way to work through difficult life seasons, including career transition, parenting or relationship stress, divorce, or grief/loss. For others who may have a history of abuse, depression, anxiety, or other condition, counseling can help one learn to manage symptoms and to pursue a life of joy and contentment. For couples or families, for whom old ways of connecting and resolving problems are no longer working, psychotherapy provides a way to explore how a situation began and to develop new ways of resolving difficulties.

Change is possible in all of us, even when it seems like we have been stuck in place for as long as we can remember. I believe that life happens, and there are circumstances that are out of our control that can cause us great pain and difficulties.These circumstances do not have to define who we are or how we live. I believe through a therapeutic relationship people can heal and lives can be improved. Together we will work towards building a safe and comfortable environment to allow change to begin.

After the fresh passion of a new or developing relationship cools, partners in marriages and committed relationships often find they experience a distancing from one another. Often this distancing results in anger and resentment toward partners. Problems which were once minor irritants now seem to be major issues which seem to always be a source of conflict and anger, or may be avoided entirely for fear of conflict. Counseling couples and families using the Gottman method, my passion is helping couples transform their relationships and gain a new sense of optimism in their relational pursuits.

I work well with clients who want to make changes in self-defeating behaviors, including addictions. My counseling style is client-centered; respectful, non-judgemental and focused on helping people move into changes in ways that make sense to them. I teach mindfulness techniques to help clients build self-awareness for emotional balance. I can help people make sense of the role of spirituality in their lives, including healing from religious abuse. I do not promote a particular religious perspective and only discuss spirituality if it is important from the client's point of view.

As a counselor, I invite people to share their concerns with me and I strive to create an environment where you can be honest, vulnerable and above all feel safe. It is my aim to help people express their emotions, discover their strengths, and look into patterns that they may want to change.

Sharing your story takes courage, but can be one of the most powerful aspects in guiding you towards positive change. Therapy offers you this opportunity. It is a time where it is all about you. Just you and your story. My approach has been described as nonjudgmental, empathic, and supportive. My goal is to help you be present with your story, where you can be witnessed and understood in a compassionate way and therefore, helping you to be more connected to yourself, others, and the world around you.

Sometimes we need to be reminded that struggling does not mean that we are weak, broken, or unworthy- it just means that we could use some extra help. It helps to connect with someone who knows that your story is worth listening to. I want your story to be heard and valued without judgment. By providing a safe environment, I help people develop compassion for how their past and current experiences have impacted them and explore new ways of being, thinking, and feeling. I believe that it is the strength of the therapeutic relationship and the goals you create together which builds meaningful change.

As an individual...YOU are good. Society, our environment, our relationships, and our own thoughts create messages that have an impact on how we view ourselves and the life we are living. Some of those messages create habits and coping mechanisms that can have negative consequences, consequences that inhibit you from knowing the goodness that lies deep within you. Knowing your inherent goodness gives you the framework and foundation to tackle the tougher issues we will work on together. While it won't solve all your problems, it is an indispensable starting point for your healing journey.

Circumstances are building and you fear that its weight will eventually grow to crush and consume you. You have so much to manage and yet you long to just let go of it all. You’re ready for a change, but it is terrifying. To face it may cause you to crumble, nevertheless, you will yourself to get through each day. I feel that one of the biggest gifts I have been given is the opportunity to work alongside individuals in their respective life journeys. I value the whole person, respect individual and cultural diversity, and view psychotherapy as a supportive, healing element to people's lives. I identify primarily from an Interpersonal perspective, placing heavy emphasis on the power of relationships. Whether talking about relation to self, family and friends, or significant others, I believe that much of how we experience the world (and its hardships) can be shaped by the meaningful and complicated experiences we have with others.

Growing up in a home with alcohol abuse, homophobia, emotional abuse, or excessive criticism can lead to feelings of worthlessness, shame, and self hatred. You may seek validation from others and fear their disapproval. This often leads to putting others needs before your own. Not understanding your worth, you may struggle following your dreams or have a career where you feel overworked and under valued. You deserve the confidence to feel in control in your life.
