An area of focus in my practice is working with parents, couples and families in times of adjustment and transition, particularly in the early years of parenthood. Parenthood can be very demanding especially when you're trying to maintain a career and relationships with your partner, family and friends. I work with clients to give them communication tools and self-care strategies as well as increasing self-awareness and personal insight.

When your child is struggling with difficulties you feel their pain. I have worked with children and families in therapy for 16 years. I can help your child or adolescent navigate some of life's challenges and support you as a parent or guardian as you guide them. I also work with individual adults facing hardships and work with you to learn about yourself and find the path that fits you. I am compassionate and creative in my approach to therapy. I use Cognitive BehavioralTx in conjunction with a psychodynamic approach to guiding you through examining your thoughts and feelings.

Feeling understood, feeling helped, and feeling supported are at the core of psychotherapy. This process also includes developing and enhancing self understanding. Many people contemplate calling a therapist for a long time, unsure of what to expect or how to proceed. Together, we can explore and understand difficult issues in your life and gain a deeper understanding of your situation. Through this process, we can begin to offer you new emotional experiences. In a safe setting with warmth and engagement, I provide an opportunity to gently move through what is bothering you most.

For the times you feel you have thoughts and feelings you cannot share with anyone, meeting with a therapist offers a contained space to reveal these parts of yourself. In my office, there is no right way to be in therapy. I have been a therapist for over 25 years and have worked in many different settings. I am very experienced in treating people with a broad spectrum of psychological problems. I have a long history of treating people who have experienced different types of trauma from sexual abuse to the effects of living in a war zone. I can help people who experience anxiety and depression and well as relationship issues. I am trained in cognitive behavior therapy but have studied many other treatment modalities. I am a teaching and supervising member of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association.

My work with you begins from my deep respect for the self-awareness and courage it takes to seek support. From our first session together, I aim to create an optimally safe and trusting relationship, a safe harbor in what may be tumultuous life seas. Gently but actively, I will help guide you through the places inside where you feel stuck, afraid, or are simply in too much pain to examine. In our sessions, I won't just sit back silently; my approach to therapy is warm, interactive, experiential and engaged.

I'm Will and I'm a therapist; but, you may also want to know that I love Star Wars, Harry Potter, hot sauces, Bay Area Sports, and the outdoors. In no way do we have to have similar interests but I find that I relate to the world via my experiences and what I'm attracted to. What I'd really like, is to give you a sense of what being in therapy with me would be like, but I am aware of some of the limits that reading a profile and looking at a picture has. What I can do, is I can illustrate a little bit of my own journey and hopefully that will provide you with enough insight to reach out to let me know what you want.

My goal is to help each person I work with reach greater satisfaction with the overall quality of their life and attain the personal tools needed to strengthen intimate relationships. I view mental health similarly to physical health: when there's an injury or illness, seeking professional intervention, guidance and support can improve overall wellness.

I work interactively and collaboratively to support you at your pace while helping you move toward the fullest expression of the life you wish to lead. I am a family therapist and my approach to psychotherapy has been shaped by over thirty years of work with addictions. Helping clients into Recovery has led to a special understanding of the complexities of relationships and the processes of change for individuals, couples, and families. I have spent most of those years seeing couples and families in San Francisco's wonderfully diverse cultural landscape. I am no stranger to the complexities of gender, class and ethnicity as they influence the work of family or individual therapy.

*PRACTICE UPDATE* I will be closing my practice in San Francisco in June of 2020 and relocating to the East Bay. I plan to welcome new clients to my East Bay practice beginning in Fall 2020.
