As an experienced therapist and a good listener,I most enjoy working with a client who is motivated to make some changes in his/her life, and who is willing to think in some new ways, as well as to attempt some new behaviors. I can easily support a client who is open, honest, and self-searching, rather than very defensive. I am usually able to help those with relationship issues to effect change, to help those with addictions and compulsions, and to help clients with depression, stress disorders, and anxiety disorders. The pressure to immediately achieve your goals has you overwhelmed. You have a few thoughts: "I'm a failure", "I'm not enough", or "others are judging me". You try to begin the day with enthusiasm, but you soon find yourself shifting from unnatural enthusiasm, to doubt, to shame, and to restlessness. Your fatigue creates a seemingly impossible environment to think clearly or address your responsibilities. Time passes slowly; sleepless nights and seemingly meaningless relationships. Overthinking begins to steal away any calm or peacefulness. You force yourself to 'do better', but this leaves you no room for genuine happiness.

You feel discouraged, overwhelmed, and held back by difficult and painful thoughts, emotions, relationships, and experiences. You wear a "mask" to hide your pain from your friends and family, feeling as if you shouldn't feel the way you feel and feeling that they would not understand what you're going through if you were to open up to them. The most important job of a therapist is to help clients see solutions in places they may not have looked. The intention is to empower clients to seek ways to gain insight and make small, but effective, changes in their daily lives. I believe that the collaborative relationship between client and therapist is meant to anchor the client as they generate courage to face themselves and make those changes. Kids and teens are some of my least empowered clients; as such, helping kids (10 and older) learn how to "show up" in their world is a passion of mine.
