As a Mindfulness-Based Therapist, people come to me because they want to be heard, and I provide a safe and welcoming space where their voice is heard with respect and a non judgmental approach. I am skilled in listening not just to the spoken word, but also to the body and non verbal expressions. An essential component of my approach is to demonstrate and work with my clients on developing acceptance and compassion to themselves and others. Everyone who seeks therapy for medical, personal and interpersonal reasons is welcome to my clinic. I work with individuals, couples, families and groups.

As human beings, pain and challenges are all integral parts of our lives, but it does not mean that we have to suffer because of those - we can learn to be peaceful, and handle challenges effectively and efficiently. My goal in therapy is to meet people where they are in their lives without any prejudice, understand their situation and needs, offer them the needed support, comfort, and resources, teach them the needed skills to cope with distress, help them heal from their emotional wounds, and bring peace and optimism into their lives. I specialize in providing individual as well as couples therapy for teens and adults.

Navigating the human experience is inevitably challenging, and can be overwhelming at times. Whether you find yourself feeling stuck, trapped by your own thoughts, overwhelmed by emotions, or hindered by past trauma, you’re not alone. Asking for help can be a life changing first step toward getting relief and living a life of meaning. As a therapist, my goal is to provide an authentic, safe space for people to process their experiences, develop skills, embody insight, and move toward building the life that they want to be living.

Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or you are coming back to the work, finding a therapist you connect with is key. When you feel the right fit, it is amazing what is possible on the healing journey. Problems start to feel more manageable and creativity opens up, allowing you to lean in and work toward the change you want to see happen. I deeply value both humor and seriousness to the therapeutic relationship. I believe that we are all wired to move toward health; sometimes we need help and guidance along the way to clear out past trauma, anxiety, relationship problems, depression.

Do you want to make room in your life for joy, confidence and hope? My approach is informed, compassionate, and heart-centered. Finding body-centered techniques beneficial to the body, I pace therapy with your body's wisdom. I work to resolve traumatic stress patterns, transforming them to nurture your unique, individual unfolding. I utilize a developmental, humanistic approach, integrating my psychotherapy training. My desire is to be available to adults to assist them in opening doors they have been unable to open alone, helping them assimilate difficult material at their own pace.

You’re trying your best to hold it all together but right now you feel exhausted, overwhelmed and stuck. You are struggling to find meaning and unsure of what to do next. You’ve done everything you “should” be doing but your life isn’t unfolding in the way that you hoped it would. You feel unmotivated, disengaged from life, unsatisfied, uninspired and inhibited. Perhaps you secretly wonder if you’re a bad person or if something is wrong with you. You’re not sure exactly why you feel this way. It doesn’t add up for you. To complicate things further, you beat yourself up for not feeling the way that you think you should.

Do your feelings feel too big or like you struggle to feel anything at all? Do you feel overwhelmed easily or like you care too much? Have you gone through a recent life change and suddenly feel unsure of where you're headed? Are you a lot harder on yourself than you would be to anyone else? Do you feel alone and need some support? You want to feel a balance in your emotions, a direction in your life, and a sense of community. It may not feel like it right now, but that is possible.

I specialize in helping individuals with trauma, anxiety, depression, and dissociation. My practice is centered on the belief that each person has a natural tendency towards healing, and my role is to support the realization of this potential in my clients. I view dreams as an invaluable tool for accessing the unconscious mind, which I believe holds crucial insight for growth and self-discovery. I encourage clients to explore their dreams as a means of discovering deeper layers of meaning in their lives, cultivating a more profound sense of purpose, and realizing their full potential.

Currently accepting new patients <> I believe psychotherapy is a project between two people where sources of emotional pain and anguish are discovered and revisited, where what has been denied, unimagined, forgotten, or come to be unspeakable can become imagined, felt and spoken. The process generates an understanding of ourselves that is vastly more dynamic than what our relationships, politics and culture allow, leading to the easing of suffering and the creation of new possibilities.

I believe suffering is an aspect of human nature and everyone has the innate ability to tolerate and grow through difficult times, to find meaning and purpose in life. Sometimes we have to enter the paradox of pain to get relief from the pain itself. I have 8 years of experience in community and group clinics and have been intensively trained in evidenced based treatment modalities. My goal is to help plant seeds of self-awareness to propel perspective, introspection, agency and self-fulfillment. I tend to tailor client-centered relational and behavioral skill building techniques. I work best with folks who are motivated.

Clients typically reach out to me when some area of their life is not working well. This could be a new instance of something not working well, or it’s possible that something hasn’t been working well for a very long time. It could be a behavior, a relationship, a job, an attitude, a way of thinking or feeling, or it could be that the ways you used to cope are no longer working or serving you anymore. It’s a painful place to be when the old way doesn’t work anymore but you don’t yet know a new way. Therapy can be a powerful place to learn new tools for engaging in life and relationships that serve you and those around you better.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Portland?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
