I work different than many other child therapists in that I have you participate in the sessions and involve you every step of the way.
You've read every parenting book out there and none of it works. Strict punishments and behavior charts make things worse and yet gentle parenting makes you feel walked all over. Initially perhaps you thought your child would grow out of some of these things or maybe even "forget" something bad that happened but now you are starting to second guess yourself. Something just doesn't seem right with your child and your gut is telling you that professional help is the way to go. And you are right, research shows that early intervention is far more effective than waiting until later in childhood to deal with problems.

I have experience working with children and adolescents struggling to navigate the changing structures of their family system whether that is by separation or conflict.
You want a happy, healthy family but the kids are fighting you, the in-laws or your parents are stressing you, or your kids are grown and you don't know what to do anymore because they aren't there. What is a normal family supposed to be like? Will my kids be ok or am I messing them up? Real fears from real parents. Will my relationship survive or how can I have a healthy relationship after years of bad ones? Parenting and relationships are hard and uniquely complicated. I see the struggle and am here to help guide your family into a better way that works instead of redoing the same old thing that hasn't been working.

My areas of specialty include children with school problems, anxiety, depression, ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and developmental delays.
The Coronavirus has drastically disrupted all of our lives. Teletherapy is the method I am now using to stay connected to current and new patients. Depression, anxiety, anger, and behavior problems can happen to anyone, especially during this time of social distancing, uncertainty, and fear. Emotional support and understanding can reduce stress and guide you to new sense of normal. Healthcare workers, essential workers, parents, individuals, couples, and children can get guidance and treatment now.

My specialty for the past 46 years has been children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral and neurological issues. Due to my experience I'm able to use multiple approaches and modalities that I formulate to the specific issue presented to me by my clients. I attempt to collaborate with the appropriate people and family members in the child 's life to assist in a team approach. I'm somewhat nontraditional in the sense that I have many different recreational activities for the child that are integrated into the treatment process.

Parents: You want the best for your child , but you don't know what to do to help him or her. Your child did not come with an owner's manual. You don't need blame, you need help! I understand that a child 's behaviors serve a purpose, and we work together to eliminate the need for the behaviors or to fulfill the need in healthier ways. And if the problem isn't that serious? Well, coaching may be better for your child than therapy--we work on strategies to improve behavior or schoolwork or whatever your concern is.

I have been helping adults, youth, children and families discover change for over 20 years.
I specialize in helping clients with complex needs for change-making. Even the common reasons that we seek therapy – depression, anxiety & strained relationships - can become overwhelming. Especially, when we add conditions like non-typical brain processing (ADHD), unique ways of thinking (Asperger’s/ Autism Spectrum) & surviving chronic trauma (e.g., Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Dissociative Disorders). These challenges require educating ourselves about our condition, learning to believe in ourselves, developing self-soothing skills & retraining our brain structures that operate in survival mode.

What type of Indiana mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.
How to find a therapist in Indiana?
When looking to find a therapist, it is certainly important to consider training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Understanding cost and insurance coverage is an important concern for many people. With some basic research and conversations with prospective therapists, you should be able to have a good understanding of the best way to afford therapy.
