I work with individuals, couples, and families facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions.
One of the biggest challenges we face as human beings is not just our problems themselves, but the fear of confronting them. This fear can be deeply rooted in our past experiences, emotions, behaviors, and cultural perspectives. Too often, it holds us back from reaching out for help—whether due to uncertainty, fear of being truly heard, or wondering if anyone genuinely cares. Creating a supportive environment built on empathy, unconditional positive regard, and acceptance allows the clients I work with to feel safe as they work through their challenges.

Healing from our suffering—not just coping with it, but transforming it into growth—often requires a journey through it. It’s been said that “feelings buried alive never die.” Fear, sadness, rejection—all want acknowledgment so that we will not stay stuck in past pain. Once we bring our experience into the light, our truth can be validated. "My feelings are real." This is an important step in reaching a place of acceptance. Once the fog or confusion lifts, clarity follows and with it the momentum and freedom to finally release, let go, and move forward.

For couples and families, therapy becomes a space for healing together.
Do you ever feel like you’ve lost the map to your own life? On the outside, does it appear you’ve got it all together, but on the inside, do you feel like you're coming apart?
Are you exhausted from the emotional labor of your relationships? Do you struggle to maintain close connections? Does it seem like nobody really understands you? Have your coping mechanisms become unhealthy habits? You’ve come to the right place. At Solace Counseling Services, I believe the answers lie within you, waiting to be uncovered.

Starting therapy and sharing personal aspects of life with someone new may evoke discomfort or unease. I recognize that this can be daunting, and I aim to create a space for you to explore – uncomfortable thoughts, self-image, or relationships in your life. To navigate through emotional struggles, it's important to embrace even the parts of ourselves we keep in the shadows. Working together to find root causes of trauma and working towards finding self-worth and perseverance is rewarding. Throughout our time, I look forward to cultivating trust, and fostering reflection on who you are, have been, and want to be.

Embarking on the journey of therapy can often feel overwhelming for many individuals. It’s not uncommon to experience uncertainty about the process, question its potential benefits, or feel as though you need to be further along in your personal growth before seeking assistance. I recognize these challenges and am committed to creating a compassionate and nurturing environment where clients can safely explore their thoughts and emotions. My objective is to help clients understand that each step, no matter how small, is a vital part of the journey toward healing and personal development.

Many people want to be able to overcome their struggles immediately. For some, that is possible, but others may need a little extra support to move through their journey of life. It may be hard to trust someone new to walk this journey with you but my goal is to create a collaborative environment that makes this process easier to navigate.

This could include a romantic partner, family member(s), friend(s), or any relationship that needs some care and attention.
I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors seeking a path out of the "stuckness" of trauma, anxiety, and grief. I specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals navigating the intersection of identity and spirituality, particularly those healing from religious trauma or life transitions. Many come to me feeling disconnected from their bodies or weary from the weight of past selves. Using Somatic Experiencing, I help you move beyond talk therapy to resolve how trauma lives in the nervous system. We work together to honor your history while building a lived sense of safety, flow, and bodily wholeness.

FAQ - Marriage Counseling
What issues does marriage counseling help with?
Marriage counseling can address common relationship concerns, including ongoing conflict, communication challenges, emotional distance, or difficulty making decisions together. It may also be helpful for couples who are not currently experiencing major problems but want to prepare for future life changes. For more specific concerns affecting one individual in the relationship, such as trauma, depression, or significant substance use concerns, individual therapy may be more appropriate than marriage counseling.

When is the right time to start marriage counseling?
There is no single “right” time to start marriage counseling, but certain signs may suggest that counseling could be helpful. For example, a couple may benefit from counseling if many conversations end in conflict, if negative interactions are becoming more frequent, or if relationship stress is affecting other areas of life, such as sleep, work, parenting, or friendships. Some couples also seek counseling proactively. Premarital counseling, for instance, allows couples to discuss communication styles, finances, family dynamics, and future goals before getting married. Other couples may start counseling before a major life change, such as becoming parents, relocating, or navigating a stressful career transition.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Marriage counseling may still help even if one partner is more hesitant to attend, as long as both people are ultimately willing to participate in sessions. Once counseling is underway, the more hesitant partner may become more open to sessions that can strengthen the relationship and build coping skills and communication strategies. If one partner refuses to attend, individual therapy may still help the other partner understand their needs, set boundaries, and decide how to approach the relationship.

Is online marriage counseling as effective as in-person?
There are differing opinions on the best format for marriage counseling. While some studies show that online marriage counseling can be as effective as in-person counseling, some argue that in-person counseling is more effective because it allows the therapist to better pick up on context and body language cues. In addition, in-person counseling may be a better fit for couples who are working through high-conflict issues. Ultimately, the “best” format depends on the couple’s specific needs and concerns.

What is faith-based marriage counseling and how is it different?
Faith-based marriage counseling incorporates a couple’s religious or spiritual beliefs into counseling. It may be a good fit for couples who want to discuss their relationship, values, and marriage within the context of their faith. For example, Christian marriage counseling may appeal to couples who want a counselor familiar with Christian beliefs about marriage. Other forms of faith-based counseling may incorporate Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or other religious perspectives into sessions.

How much does marriage counseling cost and is it covered by insurance?
Marriage counseling often costs $150 to $250 or more per session, depending on location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. Marriage counseling is typically not covered by insurance unless it is considered medically necessary and connected to a diagnosable mental health condition. Lower-cost options may be available. For instance, some therapists offer sliding scale fees for lower-income clients, and community clinics may offer counseling at a discounted rate.
