anxiety
and depression.
I believe you were born with the skills you need to live life. You can create, connect, and cut a rug. Sometimes through life we have an experience, environment, or emotion that is so strong; it separates us from our natural skills. Where we once had ease and order, we now have dis-ease and dis-order. I believe combining our skills, self-determination, and safety will get us back to ourselves and living once again.

I work with adult clients that feel stuck but still want to build more confidence, more inner peace, and harmonious relationships. I enjoy empowering people to trust in themselves and in their partners. I collaborate best with folks who are smart and creative, spiritual but not necessarily religious. Some have been minorities (e.g., immigrants, LGBTQ+, etc.). Many have been feminists and progressives. Most have struggled with
anxiety
and depression. All have proven themselves resilient!

I have experience treating those with depression &
anxiety
, Bipolar I & II, & as well as personality disorders including BPD.
I have over two decades of experience working with individuals seeking to improve their emotional & spiritual health. During this time I have seen first hand how difficult it can be for individuals to admit that they are struggling with their thoughts and emotions and their overall emotional health. It is even more challenging to have the courage to seek out and ask for assistance and help. The good news I want to share is that when I've had the opportunity to work with someone asking for help, that individual is able to improve their mental health and grow to experience their thoughts and emotions with depth and positivity.

Does your child struggle with big feelings like too much anger, worry, or sadness? Problems at school, with friends, or at home? Or maybe for you, everything feels like too much, like you don’t belong, or your thoughts just won’t stop churning. Maybe you learned to push past your feelings and keep going, but it's getting harder to feel like yourself. You, or your child, don’t need to be fixed. These are normal human experiences in response to the pressures and stressors of life. Let’s work together to peel back the layers and find a new path that’s rooted in who you are so you can rise above it and thrive.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
