I'm passionate about serving communities of people who have been underserved, and possibly harmed, by the fields of counseling and psychology in the past including: the LGBTQ+ population, those with non-traditional relationship structures such as polyamory, the kink community, and neurodivergent individuals. I strive to make therapy a comfortable and safe environment for people of all cultures, gender expressions, and sexual orientations. I am trauma-informed, sex and kink- positive, and body-neutral. I value social justice and hold anti-racist, disability-informed, feminist values, that I carry through my work.

I work with adult clients that feel stuck but want to build more confidence, more inner peace, and harmonious relationships. I enjoy empowering people to trust in themselves and in their partners. I collaborate best with folks who are smart and creative, spiritual but not necessarily religious. Some have been minorities (e.g., immigrants, LGBTQ+, etc.). Many have been feminists and leftists. Most have struggled with anxiety and depression. All have proven themselves resilient!

You may be someone who has been carrying a lot for a long time. Trauma, identity stress, or past relationships may still show up in your body, emotions, or patterns, even when you understand them logically. You might feel disconnected from yourself, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward, while still wanting therapy that feels safe, affirming, and respectful. You’re looking for a space where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are, and where healing doesn’t feel rushed or forced.

You may be holding it all together on the outside, but your mind rarely stops. Conversations replay in your head, every decision is filled with doubt, and your body is tense even when nothing's wrong. Perfectionism, self-criticism, and constant pressure make work, relationships, or parenting feel heavier than they should. Anxiety can show up as anger, irritability, or paralysis. Sometimes there's not even a real trigger, which is confusing and frustrating. If you're looking for relief, insight, and strategies to feel calmer and more confident, therapy can help you function without getting in your own way.

The journey towards becoming the people we want to be is never easy. Whether this be due to managing life’s stressors, navigating relationships, finding a way to feel more like our authentic selves, or just not feeling “right”, life is often filled with many obstacles. As your therapist, my goal is meet you where you are, and find out where your path leads you. This is accomplished by identifying the challenges you are facing, and finding realistic and meaningful answers to them. I specialize in existential therapy, with psychoanalytic insights, and enjoy working with teens, and young adults.

Many of the adults I work with across Indiana, Florida, Chicago, and Northern Virginia appear capable and accomplished on the outside but feel privately overwhelmed. Some were recently diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood; others are questioning whether years of anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt have masked neurodivergence. You may be juggling a demanding career while struggling with executive dysfunction, chronic procrastination, emotional intensity, or the quiet shame of feeling “behind” despite working twice as hard.

I specialize in working with people with all types of eating disorders, but I welcome anyone who is wanting to work through a difficult relationship with their body, maladaptive perfectionism, trauma, anxiety, and over-control. Clients will sometimes ask me, “can I talk about things other than an eating disorder in therapy?” The answer is an enthusiastic “Yes!” Think of this as talk therapy, but with someone who is very familiar with eating disorders.

Maybe you're a gifted kid who burned out after graduation. Or maybe you're trapped in people-pleasing and perfectionism. Maybe you never really get a break from the racing thoughts and worries, or you're still being tripped up by trauma or loss, or you're dealing with issues related to your religious or political group. It seems like no one fully gets what's going on with you, and even you don't understand it at times. There are problems you can't seem to fix, accept, or make meaning of. Regardless, you know life can be better than this, and you're tired of waiting for it to change.

Secular and Non-Religious Therapists
What is a secular and non religious approach in therapy?
Secular or non-religious therapy is a theoretical orientation used by many therapists and describes a therapeutic approach that does not rely on any specific religious or faith-based beliefs in the therapeutic process. Secular counselors will often approach therapy with an emphasis on evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients, instead of relying on religious practices, such as prayer or belief in God.

Is secular therapy primarily for non-religious people?
Both religious and non-religious individuals can benefit from secular therapy. People exploring their religious or spiritual beliefs may find it especially useful to work with a secular therapist who is unbiased toward any specific religion. While religious individuals might value the connection and familiarity of seeing a counselor who shares their beliefs, secular counseling can offer them the chance to develop coping skills independent of their religious practice, which can be beneficial in various aspects of their lives.

Can a secular approach to therapy help with religious trauma?
One major reason clients may seek a secular therapist is to process previous religious experiences, including religious trauma. Secular therapists can help clients manage symptoms of the trauma through practices such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). They can also encourage clients through talk therapy or psychodynamic approaches to explore the roots of their religious trauma. Since secular therapists do not have any predetermined religious beliefs, they can be particularly helpful for clients looking to explore their own religious beliefs following a history of religious trauma.

What does non religious marriage and premarital counseling involve?
Marriage and premarital counseling typically involves a couple meeting with a therapist to discuss topics such as planning for marriage, navigating a new marriage, addressing relationship challenges, and developing better communication and conflict resolution skills. Non-religious therapists assist couples in achieving these goals without adhering to specific religious beliefs or frameworks, often emphasizing inclusivity and non-judgment, especially for "nontraditional" couples. However, seeking couples therapy from a non-religious counselor does not mean religious topics are off-limits. In fact, non-religious couples from different religious backgrounds may benefit from a secular therapist who remains neutral toward the beliefs of each partner.
