I believe that most people already hold insight into what they need to feel better. What’s often missing isn’t the answer, but the confidence to trust it. My role is to help you recognize your strengths, examine what may be getting in the way, and build the clarity and skills needed to move forward with intention.

I work with adult clients that feel stuck but want to build more confidence, more inner peace, and harmonious relationships. I enjoy empowering people to trust in themselves and in their partners. I collaborate best with folks who are smart and creative, spiritual but not necessarily religious. Some have been minorities (e.g., immigrants, LGBTQ+, etc.). Many have been feminists and leftists. Most have struggled with anxiety and depression. All have proven themselves resilient!

I’m Andy Saunders, a therapist who shows up as a real person first. I became a therapist because I’ve lived through many of the same struggles my clients face—anxiety, identity confusion, the weight of trauma, addiction, and years of not feeling at home in my own skin. I know what it’s like to question your worth, to hide parts of yourself, and to feel lost in your own story. My own journey through recovery, mental health treatment, and embracing my sexuality shaped the way I sit with people: with honesty, compassion, and absolutely no judgment.

My work is an invitation to activate internal healing and deepen external connection. Relationally, I hope to move folks towards security in Self, safe risking (vulnerability) with partner(s), and mutual healing: a sacred place where bonding replaces self-preservation. With individuals, I welcome all parts as one establishes an awareness of their inner healer, the core "Self" of who you are. As therapy progresses, trust in the therapist moves towards trust in "Self." I see folks as "stuck" and not "sick," and I hold the mantra: "just as there is a healer in me, there is a healer in you." Let's get to know it.

If life feels like a lot right now, whether for you or someone you love, you don’t have to carry it alone. The reasons for seeking therapy can be numerous anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, etc. Sometimes it helps to have an expert hold space to just let you breathe. Maybe you need help finding clarity about what’s next or real tools for change. My hope is that you can have a place that helps you make sense of what’s happening, get expert feedback on a path forward, and help (for you or your loved one) start feeling better, steadier, and more hopeful again.

You carry a massive amount of responsibility. Your family, your career, and the team you lead all depend on your ability to execute daily. Slowing down isn’t an option, and falling down isn't a choice. But lately, the pressure feels heavier than it ever has before. The decision fatigue is higher, the bounce-back time is longer, and the silent weight of holding it all together is leaving you exhausted, stressed, and overwhelmed.
You cannot fix a high-pressure life with basic "talk therapy." You don't need to vent; you need a strategy.

One of the most challenging things to do sometimes is to ask for help. Seeking out a therapist is no different; maybe even more challenging. In reaching out and embracing counseling, you could learn and develop new skills for dealing with stress, anxiety and depression, more effective ways of coping, and improve self-esteem.

Progress is a professional passion of mine. I listen to you and help you discover your own solutions that will feel right to you. Practicing for almost 20 years, I use little 'therapy-speak,' but rather use my experience and training to have conversational style psychotherapy sessions in which we work to move forward in the direction you need to go. I bring a holistic approach to both individual & couples therapy where I draw on Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt & Jungian, Trauma-focused, and Addictions therapies to create a safe space for growth.

I became a therapist to support individuals through life’s changes and challenges as we journey through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. I strive to increase access to mental health for all individuals and believe representation of all identities is important in this field. I strive to create a safe and inviting space in session where we can process the feelings that come with life's changes and stressors all while working together to collaborate on realistic solutions. Working with me, no two sessions will be the same. I understand that as times change, so do our needs and my flexibility will reflect that.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
