In my career as a counselor I have seen children heal from trauma, teenagers gain confidence through challenges, people who feel hopeless find new meaning and purpose in their lives and everything else in between.
I will do whatever I can to make you feel comfortable, seen, and safe in our work together. I use a variety of approaches in my work that are completely tailored to you, your needs and your goals. I long to facilitate healing from the past, help equip you to make positive changes for the present, and also to nurture a true, enduring hope for the future.

You already know something isn't working. Maybe trauma from years ago still showing up, or maybe getting out of bed feels like a negotiation every morning. Maybe it's the cycle breaking a pattern, feeling hopeful, watching it creep back, and wondering if change is possible for you. It is, and you don't have to figure it out alone. I work with people tired of just coping. People who've been in survival mode so long they've forgotten what living feels like. Empathy is my foundation, and my approach is solution-focused because you deserve more than a weekly space to unpack pain without building a way through it.

Life just seems to be harder for you than everyone else. You constantly wonder why it takes so much effort to do seemingly simple tasks - brush your teeth, wash dishes, finish laundry. By the end of the day you have nothing left. As much as you want friendships, they are hard and exhausting to keep up with. You try finding strategies that work but being consistent seems impossible. If you could just figure out how to make these things easier, life wouldn't be so stressful. The depression, anxiety, and constant guilt takes a toll on your mental health, but it doesn't seem to explain everything you are going through...

My goal is to assist my clients in navigating the challenges that life presents to each of us. Our minds can become stuck in the “on” position when we are overwhelmed by unexpected changes or disappointments in daily life. Life can become difficult. When our fear network is in overdrive, we can experience a wide range of negative emotions My goal as your therapist is to work with you collaboratively, to disarm and dispel unhelpful ways of coping with life challenges.

One of the staples of life is change. Change can be viewed as a positive or in a not-so-positive manner. Change affects us not only in relation to events but in how we perceive each other. For over 32 years, I have walked alongside individuals and families through change. Change pulls at the core of who we are and often in this tug-of-war, we find ourselves frustrated, lost, feeling helpless and with major questions. Let's journey through these questions together.

Since 2018, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside adults, children, teens, and families as they navigate life’s twists, turns, and growing pains.
I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can breathe, reflect, and experiment with new ways of being. You don’t have to have it all figured out to start, I just ask that you be curious enough to try.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
