If you're struggling with challenges related to
parenting
, adoption, and or foster care, please reach out.
My clients are typically adoptees and/or their adoptive or birth families. I also see women who are struggling with burnout. Adoption is a life-long process that can create many challenges for adoptees. I “get it” on a level most therapists can’t because as an adoptee myself, I’ve also experienced those losses and the questions that come with them. I am in reunion and have been since I was 18. This has been a largely positive experience but has had emotional ups and downs through the years.

Becoming a therapist has been about embracing change and humanity in my own personal walk of life. My own deep heartache and resilience has propelled me into a career in which I can mindfully guide others through the healing and growth process. True growth, acceptance, and change can happen through the work and hope that therapy provides. Personally, I am a
parent
of two imperfectly perfect humans, was a teacher of many children, and now use my loving nature to examine and hope, as well as, offer opportunities to change with individuals in therapy. Moving through the love of moments and reality is a test of time.

I enjoy working with clients who are ready to take a look at themselves and see how they can improve their own choices and life. My style is direct and genuine. It is through honest self-exploration that we learn why we do what we do and how we can then make deep and lasting changes. I focus on accountability and ownership, not blame and shaming thought patterns. It is my goal to provide a safe but honest place to do this work and to provide my clients with the framework to create that change. This is particularly helpful in my work as a co-
parent
coach supporting families, most often through that first year after separation.

As a
parent
, you just want the best for your child.
Is your child having difficulty sitting still during class? Is she struggling academically? Or he is irritable and moody? Is your child a picky eater? As a
parent
, you may wonder, "Is this normal?" Life can be complex and challenging, and psychological testing can aid in providing clarity and better understanding your child. Testing can also assist in identifying barriers that are impeding your child's optimal functioning. I will partner with your family to better understand the difficulties and then develop a clear, concise plan following testing to access resources and treatment services to best support your child's needs.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
