While I specialize in parenting techniques for young children, I also enjoy working with children, teens, and adults who feel "stuck," or are having difficulty managing family and social conflicts. I believe the therapeutic relationship is a powerful agent of change, and aim to provide a warm, safe, and casual space for clients to express themselves. I work particularly well with teenage and young adult females. I also encourage creative outlets for processing emotional issues, which might include drawing, painting or any other evidenced-based expressive techniques that relieve distress.

As a therapist, I am most excited to see clients motivated to explore their unknown strengths, widen their horizons, increase their abilities to make informed decisions and lead a life of meaning as they define it. Everyone I have worked with brings to therapy a foundation upon which to grow. Regardless of the problem, an enhanced sense of self is possible. Instilling hope of something better in life is one of my greatest motivations, and assisting others in achieving their goals drew me to this profession.

Shame, embarrassment, fear. Maybe you've felt these things when you think about sex. Maybe you've tried to talk about sex with your partner(s) or friends, but their responses made you feel weird and awkward - like you said or did something terrible. Maybe you've started to feel like there actually is something wrong with you and you'll never have a fulfilling relationship with your partner(s) because of your sexuality or differences. Ultimately, you just feel completely alone and misunderstood in your relationships. It doesn't have to be this way, and I can help you have difficult, but courageous conversations with your partner(s).

My ideal client is someone who acknowledges a problem exists, even if they don’t quite know what it is. The source of that issue can be discovered and processed through therapy, leaving the client with effective tools and skills to cope with and manage their emotions.

Hello! Welcome to Meadow Creek Counseling. I am glad you have stopped by. I embrace a collaborative effort to help you reach your goals. I bring authenticity, humor, and professionalism to my clients. I am laid back and quirky (but in a good way). I am empathetic but also straightforward. Some of the approaches I am familiar with and utilize in sessions are cognitive behavioral, somatic experiencing, internal family systems, emotion focused family therapy, attachment theory, and trauma, and trauma informed care.

I appreciate someone with an open heart and a willingness to explore their inner self. I value individuals who are ready to engage and connect in meaningful conversations. I know it can be hard to take the first step for help, and look for someone who is committed to their own growth and willing to collaborate in their goals. Trust, honesty, and a desire to change create a supportive connecting environment where healing and transformation can take place.

My ideal client would be vulnerable yet aware in the beginning. They would be open to learning about therapy options. They would also have many questions, including sharing their fears regarding therapy. My ideal client would also be prepared to complete homework assignments and truly engage in each session. During the therapeutic sessions, I would learn what each emotion looks like for my client and how it impacts their lives. My ideal client's growth is evident in each session that they participate in, and they never give up on them.

It is not uncommon to find ourselves at some point in our lives feeling “stuck” often leaving us scared, paralyzed, sad, confused, angry, and/or fed up. It is my honor and privilege to walk alongside a wide range of clients and hear their stories. It is my belief clients are the experts in their own lives and I aid in the uncovering process of their inherent goodness and strengths. Through an open and affirming, culturally competent environment, I help clients feel “un-stuck” to then go and live the lives they were meant to live.

The ideal client is anyone brave enough to put themselves first and ask for help. The ideal client is receptive to the therapeutic process and is direct, open, and vulnerable. They also understand that the therapeutic process takes time, and one does not get there overnight. The ideal client is patient with themselves and can give themselves grace and permission to grow. The client will have the goal of personal self-development and is ready to do the work. The ideal client does not expect me to "fix" them but understands that a clinician is a form of support on their journey and that we will accomplish any goals together.

I have a strong belief that all individuals are resilient and capable of living full, authentic lives. I have worked in an outpatient clinic working in forensics as well as higher levels of care to the outpatient level for eating disorders with co-occurring diagnoses. If you or a loved one are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, substance-use, disordered eating/body image, and stress-related issues, I would be happy to assist you in a judgment-free, supportive environment.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
