As an animal assisted therapist both I and my canine co-therapist Sadie help when life feels overwhelming, when anxiety, depression, trauma, or family struggles take hold. Animal-Assisted Counseling provides a calming, supportive presence that helps ease emotional pain and build resilience. You don’t have to face it alone. Maybe your child is struggling with big emotions, your teen is withdrawing, or you feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Healing is possible, and support is here.

Mental health is the most intimate non-physical relationship a person can have with another. I provide a safe, compassionate, culturally responsive, and collaborative environment. Additionally, sessions are realistic, non-judgmental yet; a direct environment for you to heal and feel good with your decisions. My clinical style of psychotherapy includes psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, and motivational interviewing. I believe that therapy is a guide to introduce you to yourself, by raising awareness and helping you have insight into understanding your inner conflicts, such as who are you really? Who would you like to become?

In the decades I have worked with clients, I have come to deeply appreciate and respect the strength and resilience of the human spirit. I work with clients to connect with and build on these inherent strengths, enabling them to replace anxiety, depression, and the effects of traumatic experiences with an enhanced sense of empowerment over their lives. Present moment living and conscious choices replace worry and regret. Small deliberate changes can yield significant results. I believe that problems are better viewed as important opportunities for understanding, growth, healing, and change. My approach is holistic and integrative

Reaching out to a stranger for help isn't easy, and I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to even consider it. My approach is collaborative and culturally responsive, grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Together, we'll explore how systemic and external factors may be shaping your relationship with yourself and with others. From that deeper understanding, we'll work to shift how you treat yourself and how you show up in the world around you. You don't have to navigate this alone. I'm in-network with major plans through Headway, including Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, Oscar, and Cigna.

Not sure what is causing you to feel "off" but you know it's not how you WANT to feel? Whether you're navigating the stress of daily life, emotional havoc of menopause, pesky health anxiety, parenthood, the weight of past trauma, big things, little things or all of the above, you don't have to heal in isolation. Anxiety can be challenging but also helpful if you know how to connect to your own needs. Talking about it is just one piece of a bigger puzzle. By giving you agency and tools, we can identify and learn the language of your physical experiences and begin to minimize discomfort of anxious symptoms and behaviors.

Hey there, If you’re reading this right now, you’re probably going through a lot (and I know that may be an understatement). I get it. Life can be incredibly challenging. It can feel overwhelming, exhausting, hopeless, and difficult to know what to do or how to make things better. Reaching out for support isn’t easy, and I want to acknowledge the courage it takes for you to be here. Change can be hard, but I often say that thankfully, the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.

I coach women (and sometimes men) to value themselves as much as they value others. My clients have had the following characteristics. See if any of these describe you. They want to be liked by everyone. They become anxious when others are angry with them. They avoid conflict at any cost. They judge themselves as never good enough. They are afraid to express differing points of view. They value the opinions others hold of them, more than they value their own self-approval.

With over 20 years in the mental health field, I am passionate about working together to manage struggles with formulating effective coping skills, reshaping patterns that have not been healthy or helpful, processing thru a life change or event that has left you feeling stuck and confused, and assisting with sorting thru difficult feelings and emotions. I believes that there is no better time than the present and that every moment is a gift. We are not defined by one moment in our lives. Sometimes, often due to difficult events and challenges, we lose sight of our strengths and our places of empowerment.

‘If only I would have… I shouldn’t have… I should have known … Why wasn’t I more careful? How am I going to get through this?’ Having an emotional response to a serious experience like an accident, rape, or natural disaster is normal. Nevertheless, the everyday demands of life can be just as exhausting. Your boss has been pressuring you to work longer hours because of being short staffed. You feel guilty for working and not being able to spend time with your children, partner, other family and friends. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, with a focus on your personal self-care, may be complicated.

Codependency Therapists
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
