As a counselor and consultant for over 20 years, I have had the privilege to work with a variety of clients in diverse settings. My licenses and certifications also reflect a diverse background and experience as a Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), Family and Marriage Therapist (LMFT), Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Master Career Counselor (NCCC, MCC) and Employee Assistance Consultant (CEAP). The primary focus of my experience has been in family, marriage, career and substance abuse counseling. In general, I use an eclectic approach to counseling but tend to emphasize cognitive-behavioral and solution focus.

Life can be extremely difficult to navigate at times, especially when going through major life transitions or struggling with mental health. The combination of these two things can affect our well-being. Participating in therapy can help to guide you through the waves of life. I often describe my approach to clients as we are riding in a boat together, you are steering the boat but I’m in the back and can help to be your guide. Together we can navigate the waters of what life brings or what has been floating to the surface that has become an obstacle.

There may come a time when you find yourself at your wit’s end, unable to find a solution for the troubles life has thrown your way. After all, we should be able to solve our own problems, right? For many of us, the decision to call a therapist is the last thing on our list as it can feel like admitting weakness, but it takes courage to make that call. Whether you're struggling with addictions, a serious mental illness, or just feeling 'stuck' in life, I strive in my work to make you glad you reached out.

Because of my work in helping couples recover from deep relationship wounds, many of my clients are those seeking help before their problems become more severe, but much of my work is directed toward bringing healing to relationships that have been traumatized by an affair.
My experience and passion have been focused on helping couples and individuals work through a relationship crisis, including infidelity issues. By helping clients gain greater insight into the causes of their problem and clarity regarding a healthy & satisfying relationship, they are able to experience real change rather than just temporary relief from symptoms.

This crazy journey called life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, searching for answers we can’t seem to find, or dealt a blow from which it feels impossible to recover. Counseling could aid you in breaking life down into more manageable pieces, inject a fresh perspective inspiring hope, guide you to finding the answers you are looking for, or teach you how to pick yourself up after a particularly brutal blow. Whatever the challenges you face, know there is hope and you are worth fighting for. I want you to know you are not broken, and you don’t need fixing; instead counseling can guide, teach, and revitalize your life.

I also specialize in nervous system regulation techniques to support clients in managing stress, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms.
Life is hard. Sometimes we all need some support and guidance to get us to a healthier/happier place. In my practice, I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), among other research-based approaches, to help individuals navigate life's challenges and achieve meaningful change. By focusing on acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings rather than their elimination, I assist clients in fostering psychological flexibility and resilience. Through compassionate exploration of values and committed action, clients learn to align their behaviors with their deepest aspirations, leading to a more fulfilling life.

One of the most challenging things to do sometimes is to ask for help. Seeking out a therapist is no different; maybe even more challenging. By reaching out and embracing counseling, you could learn and develop new skills for dealing with stress, anxiety and depression, more effective ways of coping, and improve self-esteem.

When most people are seeking a therapist, they are looking for someone they “click” with. I get it. Reaching out for help, whether it's walking in to a therapists office, over the phone or online is a big step and takes courage. Everyone needs to feel when they do so that the person they have chosen to help them fits with them and their needs well. I couldn’t agree more. Therapy is a relationship. When life is hard, you want someone you're comfortable with to help address the struggles and challenges you face everyday. You want someone who gets you, that is relateable and you feel is qualified to help get you there!

My experience with addiction and recovery gives me some insight into hu man transformation from brokenness to wholeness, and how this recovery process involves both external and internal life changes.
I enjoy working with clients who come to me in crisis with some awareness that their existing coping resources and skills have been overwhelmed to the point they need some help to grow through the situation. Though it typically begins concretely with stress and conflict management, this work often deepens into fruitful reexamination of personal values, family dynamics, problematic relationship patterns, and existential or spiritual themes. I see individual problems as often having been forged in the crucible of one's family of origin, which has often severely limited one's ability to respond well to all of life's de mands.

My desired families are those that love Jesus and want to grow in their faith. Of course, I would love and accept all clients despite religious/philosophical preferences. I have extensive experience working with couples, individuals/couples coping with trauma, coping with a phase of life, addictions, and men's issues. The single most important attribute I can provide, higher than the philosophy and the techniques of counseling, I genuinely care about every individual that steps into my care. We all need a support system that cares for our needs and can point us in the right direction when we are surrounded by darkness.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
