I’ve been in clinical practice for five years, and have worked as a social worker since 2010. I work with all ages because I believe we all need a little support from time to time, no matter our phase of life. I strive to create a collaborative, safe space to explore openly and engage genuinely. Individuals may seek therapy with me for many reasons, and no reason is “more valid” than any other. Some of these might be: self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, major life changes, parenting , fertility challenges and/or pregnancy loss, postpartum adjustments, relationship challenges, personal development and growth.

I’m a registered domestic relations mediator and qualified parenting coordinator.
Life surprises us sometimes… In those moments it is helpful to have someone to come alongside us to provide genuine presence, professionalism and expertise, balanced with compassion, to help through times of transition, trauma or growth. I am passionate about offering encouragement, steps for healing and coping, insight, psychoeducation and interpretation when families are struggling to understand one another. Learning how to navigate life’s courses with sensitivity, kindness and realistic perspective can be more easily undertaken in a therapeutic forum that is accepting and direct. Office, teletherapy, walk/talk or home based.

Life can be very complicated. You may feel like you are doing everything possible to make things better for yourself or for someone you love, but have run out of energy, ideas, or both. You may have a relationship with someone you love but just can't seem to get along. You may be a parent trying to best figure out how to help a child or teen who is having problems. You may feel burdened by sadness, fear, or stress. Or perhaps you have old wounds that seem to keep interfering with your ability to create the life you desire.

As a parent , you just want the best for your child.
Is your child having difficulty sitting still during class? Is she struggling academically? Or he is irritable and moody? Is your child a picky eater? As a parent , you may wonder, "Is this normal?" Life can be complex and challenging, and psychological testing can aid in providing clarity and better understanding your child. Testing can also assist in identifying barriers that are impeding your child's optimal functioning. I will partner with your family to better understand the difficulties and then develop a clear, concise plan following testing to access resources and treatment services to best support your child's needs.

You want a happy, healthy family but the kids are fighting you, the in-laws or your parents are stressing you, or your kids are grown and you don't know what to do anymore because they aren't there. What is a normal family supposed to be like? Will my kids be ok or am I messing them up? Real fears from real parents. Will my relationship survive or how can I have a healthy relationship after years of bad ones? Parenting and relationships are hard and uniquely complicated. I see the struggle and am here to help guide your family into a better way that works instead of redoing the same old thing that hasn't been working.

My clients are typically adoptees and/or their adoptive or birth families. I also see women who are struggling with burnout. Adoption is a life-long process that can create many challenges for adoptees. I “get it” on a level most therapists can’t because as an adoptee myself, I’ve also experienced those losses and the questions that come with them. I am in reunion and have been since I was 18. This has been a largely positive experience but has had emotional ups and downs through the years.

I began my career as a registered nurse. After working in several areas of medical care, I settled into thirteen years as a psychiatric nurse attending to the care of children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. During this time, I returned to graduate school to complete my master of social work degree. Since finishing, I have practiced as a therapist, in a community clinic, and in a private clinic. Two years ago, I opened my own independent practice and continue with that today. My approach to counseling adults is based in cognitive-behavioral theory, better known as "talk therapy."

Raising children is the hardest and most rewarding job you will ever have. When a child has experienced trauma, transition or is struggling with another concern, it is even more difficult. I work with children and their families to help them integrate their unique experiences in the world. There is hope, help and support for children who are struggling with; trauma, grief/loss, transitions, ADHD, anxiety, defiance, depression, and worry. I believe in the power of play and the ability of children and families to grow towards health and healing.

I have over two decades of experience working with individuals seeking to improve their emotional & spiritual health. During this time I have seen first hand how difficult it can be for individuals to admit that they are struggling with their thoughts and emotions and their overall emotional health. It is even more challenging to have the courage to seek out and ask for assistance and help. The good news I want to share is that when I've had the opportunity to work with someone asking for help, that individual is able to improve their mental health and grow to experience their thoughts and emotions with depth and positivity.

Life today might not look the way you want. Whether past trauma or anxiety is affecting your day-to-day life, you no longer want to feel like a slave to substances, or you’re just ready to invest in your health, this is the place for you. You may feel controlled by your emotions with deep-rooted pain, shame, unmet needs, or abandonment at the core of your experience. By learning to understand yourself better – to no longer avoid or resist the way you are but instead embrace it – to use that discomfort to grow and evolve – you can find freedom. This freedom only comes from healing the root cause of what’s holding you back.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
