ATTENTION PARENTS WHOSE CHILD IS STRUGGLING WITH DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, OR INTERPERSONAL ISSUES (AT SCHOOL OR AT HOME): You have a teenager who needs someone to talk to, but you aren’t sure who they will feel comfortable with. When your child shares their challenging experiences, you want someone who can RELATE. You’re looking for someone who has lived what your child is facing, and who MADE IT THROUGH. Someone who has a shared understanding of the struggles of being a teen, someone who can provide support and empathy, and someone who has already learned to manage and conquer what your adolescent is feeling.

If you are struggling with
suicidal
thoughts let me help you.
You go through the motions day in and day out. You can't sleep. And no one understands, you can't do this anymore - you're tired of living. It's not uncommon for people in the "
suicidal
mode" to believe there are no options. My job is to help you understand there is a way to alleviate your pain without ending your life. You can return to feeling life is worth living. Usually people want to kill themselves because of a loss - loss of a relationship, finances, career, identity or even the loss of a loved one.

suicidal ideation
, serving as clinical educator for a large crisis dept.
It's uncomfortable to reach out for help, to reveal our pain and personal matters to anyone, let alone a stranger. This is why my priority is creating a safe, judgment free space to build a genuine connection with my clients. In addition to developing strategies to relieve immediate distress, I apply my 15 years in mental health, from home-based to hospital crisis work, to help you identify the reasons behind your struggles and resolve the underlying causes. I am also highly trained in working with girls who have severe mood disorders,
suicidal ideation
and self harm.
Being a teen girl is tough! Raising a teen girl can be even tougher. Anxiety, depression, identity issues, peer relations, academic stress, and outside pressures can leave teen girls needing increased support just as many are beginning to pull away from their parents to develop their own passions and purpose. Parents often find themselves feeling like an outsider as their teen daughters suddenly begin to turn to peers, friends, and social media for advice and guidance instead of mom or dad. This can lead to increased family conflict as parents and teens struggle to communicate with each other and find common ground.

People are a lot like plants. We stem from different roots, endure different stressors, and grow under different conditions. Yet, our most important similarity is our ability to be resilient even in the face of adversity. In my clinical approach, I nurture the conditions that support each individual’s growth through collaboration, creativity, and compassion. Whether you are looking to tend to the intricacies of grief and loss, uproot your life from past trauma, cut down on addictive patterns, or simply absorb new tools for managing day-to-day stressors, I would love the opportunity to work with you and help you grow.

I enjoy working with clients that experience low mood/
suicidal ideation

My approach to therapy with my clients is person-centered and strength based, and I utilize art and my therapy dog when appropriate. I know that being a kid while navigating today’s world is hard. But with a good support system and the right tools I believe children can thrive and live their best lives. I approach each client with a holistic approach, looking at their biopsychosocial makeup to best understand and support them. At my core I am a creative, I always look for creative solutions and alternative ways to provide effective therapy.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
