As a BIPOC male and first-generation therapist, I bring both professional training and lived experience to my work. I know what it’s like to carry unspoken pressures and expectations, and I believe therapy should be a space where you can lay those burdens down without judgment.

I am a Christian counselor/coach and I am passionate about helping men experience freedom from compulsive behaviors and, as a result, a deeper connection with God, themselves, and others. I specialize in helping men struggling with addictive and compulsive behaviors like pornography, sex, drugs, alcohol, food, work, video games, relationships, etc. After more than 20 years of experience, I have found that true lasting healing does not happen in isolation. Weekly recovery groups provide the accountability, honesty, and brotherhood required for lasting transformation. That is why I now fully focus on the power of group work.

I have worked with behavioral health (anxiety, substance use); mood disorders including depression, Bipolar, and dual diagnoses; trauma and PTSD; and personality disorders.
As a therapist, I am most excited to see clients motivated to explore their unknown strengths, widen their horizons, increase their abilities to make informed decisions and lead a life of meaning as they define it. Everyone I have worked with brings to therapy a foundation upon which to grow. Regardless of the problem, an enhanced sense of self is possible. Instilling hope of something better in life is one of my greatest motivations, and assisting others in achieving their goals drew me to this profession.

I use compassion and a person-centered approach, blending emotion-focused and CBT strategies to support clients struggling with substance use, relationships and mood concerns.
Do you ever feel like life has dimmed your spark or like your moods have taken the wheel (without asking for directions)? You’re not alone. I work with clients to make sense of their story, break free from shame, and reconnect with the joy and resilience already inside. I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where you can feel supported, accepted, and even find a little lightness along the way. Healing doesn’t have to be all heavy—it can be hopeful, empowering, and yes, even refreshing.

Dealing with addiction can be an overwhelming experience that is filled with starts and stops and can often leave you hopeless and uncertain about the future. In many ways, addiction is like a bad relationship; the longer you remain in it, the worse it gets. Change is possible, but you do not need to go it alone. I will provide a therapeutic space that will meet you where you are and help you to discover the possibility of a better future.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
