While I have been successful with treating depression, anxiety, addictions, and many other mental health challenges, I specialize in working with PTSD: sexual assault, domestic violence and narcissistic abuse.
Be seen this week! Trauma can have a deep impact on the way an individual views themselves, others, and the world. People who have survived trauma can continue to carry the trauma with them by reliving it in their thoughts and dreams, by avoiding certain people, places, and things and experiencing disturbances in their sleep, mood, and startle response. While all of these symptoms can be overwhelming, you do not have to carry them with you for the rest of your life. There are various treatments that have been scientifically proven to positively impact client's lives and help them not just "get over" their trauma, but to overcome it

I believe every person carries the strength and resilience needed to heal from trauma and heartache. Life’s complexities can make that strength hard to access, but healing is possible when we feel supported and seen. My passion and purpose are to help you build the tools, resources, and connections that foster recovery and lasting well-being.
I use evidence-based approaches to help clients navigate trauma (past and present), addictions, emotional distress, sexual health concerns, relationship challenges, and grief. My clinical work is grounded in trauma-informed care as supported by the National Institute for Trauma-Informed Care.

Many of the people who work best with my approach are thoughtful, perceptive, and self-aware. They’ve often spent years trying to understand themselves — reading, reflecting, and sometimes even attending therapy before. They may already know why they do certain things. And yet, the same emotional patterns continue to show up: anxiety, self-criticism, relationship struggles, or a persistent sense of being stuck. This can be especially frustrating when you’re someone who naturally thinks deeply and wants more than surface-level coping strategies.

Mainly, I work alongside sexual assault/abuse survivors and those navigating chronic illness or disability.
In session, I gravitate towards humanistic perspective. Meaning, I want to work with the whole person, not just the unhealthy parts. I utilize DBT, attachment work, sex therapy interventions, and art therapy interventions predominantly and continue to explore new interventions to assist in supporting all people!

Trauma impacts us in ways we can’t imagine. It affects human development and rewires our brain. I remember seeing the impact trauma from childhood had for my adult clients. I remember seeing elementary school children and the impact trauma has on their ability to develop healthy relationships. Processing trauma isn’t something you need to do alone. I can still remember meeting with a teen girl and seeing her relief after processing her trauma and expressing how much better she felt. Working through trauma allows my clients to feel relief and feel a decrease in their daily triggers.

You ARE capable of healing. You already have this ability.
Do you feel anxious? Exhausted? Depressed? Like giving up? Sometimes we get stuck. We feel like we are just going through the motions. We get tired of having bigger reactions than a situation seems to warrant. We are tired of repeating the same solutions with no positive results. We realize we're not making sense in our relationships and we're scared of emotionally hurting those we love. I believe each person has the capacity to heal Self. Let's take a look at your environment and see what is getting in the way of you being yourself.

I've had the privilege of working with individuals and families on various issues, including sexual abuse and assault, other forms of trauma, LGBTQ issues, depression, anxiety, substance use and grief/loss.
There's a beautiful passage by Jacquelyn Small that sums up the way I view and practice therapy: "When therapeutic relating occurs, both parties have dissolved the boundary between the one needing help and the other offering it; they are simply two beings bouncing off each other in truth; We all just need clear people to bounce off of so we can see our own light." I strongly believe that we're the experts of our own lives and sometimes we just need a safe, non-judgmental person to see us, believe our experiences and remind us that we're deserving and healing is possible.

Also, I am certified in working with victims of sexual abuse and youth with sexually maladaptive behaviors.
Hearing the words, “you can’t” or “you will never amount to anything” can leave deep emotional wounds that linger long after they are spoken. Over time, those messages may become internalized, shaping how you see yourself and limiting what you believe is possible. I want you to know that those beliefs are not your truth. Change is attainable. Together, we can process painful experiences, develop healthy coping skills, and rebuild self-worth. As trauma is addressed, you’ll gain insight into patterns that no longer serve you and begin rediscovering your strength, confidence, and authentic self.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
