Your brain has done an excellent job keeping you safe through so many things, but some of those thoughts and behaviors that kept you safe may no longer be serving you. We can take time to honor their origins and replace them with more customized strategies. Issues like family discord, medical illnesses, familial neurodivergence, and toxic work environments can all add up to impact our tolerance, especially when dealing with more than one simultaneously. Let’s talk soon and start untangling your story.

This will allow us to love and
parent
from a calm and centered place and to raise children who thrive.
I am passionate about reducing suffering. My expertise is in helping women and teens struggling with depression, anxiety, feeling stressed/overwhelmed or "not good enough". I help women on their paths to
parenting
whether they are dealing with infertility, experiencing challenges in pregnancy/perinatal/postpartum, or needing support in
parenting
their children or balancing the demands of their lives. I have 13 years of clinical experience and 10 of those years have been spent treating children/teens with depression and anxiety (and often self-harming behaviors) in an intensive outpatient setting. I understand the stresses of teens and connect well with them.

In addition I am also a
parent
and a caretaker to elderly parents so I have a wide range of life experience from which to draw.
My approach is to understand my client through a complete history of childhood and adult experiences so that we can together explore how the client perceives the world. Sometimes experiences can cause clients to be anxious, defensive or make poor choices. I hope to help clients see how these approaches may have been useful in other times in life but may be less useful now. Sometimes a new approach to thinking is helpful. Other times insight and being understood can promote change. This approach also works with both parties in a couple to help regain trust and form new ways of relating.

I support women and families in working through pregnancy/postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, infertility, loss, traumatic birth experiences, and
parenting
through a trauma-informed, person-centered lens.
The journey to parenthood can bring up many different emotions; stress, fear, uncertainty, unresolved pasts, self-doubt, or grief, to name a few. Trying to navigate these emotions during a time of such vulnerability can be overwhelming. Resiliency and healing are fostered through empathy, connection, and understanding, and I know that growth can come from some of the most painful experiences. In my role as a therapist, my job is to help you explore the resources you already have to help you safely navigate your own experience of parenthood.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
