Now offering nature-based walk-and-talk sessions! You might feel like life doesn’t have a clear path right now. Like roots and brambles are in the way, leaving you stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed. As a new year unfolds, you may be feeling a quiet urge to set intentions or make changes, even if the path forward isn’t fully clear yet. Transitions, relationships, or past experiences might still feel heavy. You want a space to pause, be heard, and gather your strength. Together, we can explore your experiences, build coping skills, and tend your inner flame so you can move forward with curiosity, calm, and confidence.

I also have personal experience and passion for working with those who practice polyamory or other open relationship styles - but monogamists are warmly welcomed!
Do you find yourself feeling just... off? Maybe just the past few weeks, or maybe you've felt misaligned for years. There are so many moving parts we are constantly managing to keep a balanced and fulfilling life, and trying to keep it together ourselves doesn't always work. My goal is to help you take inventory, make sense of the chaos, and get to a balance that works for you. Like a piece of art composed entirely of dots. As a therapist, I am driven by getting to know the story of my clients: where they come from, where they are at, and where they hope to go. It's my hope to walk alongside you to get you on the right track.

It can be difficult to talk about mental health and illness. Sometimes we feel as though no one is truly listening when we ask for help. Whether you are struggling to push back against overwhelming despair, fears of tomorrow, or crushing sadness due to loss, I am listening. If it is your own, private journey or perhaps difficulties with a relationship, I am listening. Maybe you aren't sure what is real and what isn't, or maybe you feel trapped in a body that is not you, I am listening. Perhaps you have been shunned or turned away by friends and family simply because of who you are. I am listening.

I enjoy art, media, and literature and integrate this into my work whenever possible. Clients and colleagues have described me as calm, compassionate, curious, and a bit nerdy. Relationships are the fabric of our lives, weaving all of our life experiences together. Bonds of every kind can be challenging, and sometimes leave us feeling rejected or afraid. Out of a desire for closeness, we can sometimes cower or lash out (without knowing why). Let us work together to discover how to find (and keep!) healthy relationships.

Welcome! I’m K. Hilary Curtis-Long, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over eight years of experience in trauma informed and systems-oriented care. My work is grounded in the belief that distress is not a personal failing, but a meaningful response to lived experience—often shaped by relational wounds, cultural narratives, and environments that ask too much of the nervous system. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, listen carefully, and make sense of what your symptoms have been trying to communicate.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists
Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.

When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?
Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.

How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?
Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
