I work to create a warm, non-judgment, and trauma-informed therapy space, so we can develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your personal values and needs. We then partner together as we explore the many facets and layers of you, your family and your environment in order to help you learn more about yourself. I work with artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, clergy, students, other therapists, professionals and anyone trying to carry the demands of modern life and maintain their humanity. I help clients live creatively, identifying their core values and exploring new ways of knowing themselves and their most intimate relationships. Some of my clients have come from high control relationships or religious dynamics and are working to connect with a stronger, more essential self. Some are going through life transitions that have stirred up unfelt emotions and exposed patterns of relating that no longer serve them.

My style is down-to-earth, direct, and personal. This type of therapy aims to change both our outward struggles and behaviors that can seem baffling and distressing while understanding the issues that underlie them. These deeper forces - hidden from view and rooted in our past and early relationships - can result in the greatest difficulty, and cause us to feel stuck, confused, empty, or out of control. Having the involvement and perspective of another person can help alleviate pain, shift old patterns, recover from difficulties, and lead to lasting change.

Navigating daily life when impacted by the effects of trauma can be difficult. What may feel like a minor situation or annoyance to others may trigger extreme reactions that are difficult to understand. Trauma reactions may arise at unexpected times, create unintended negative consequences, and leave you feeling confused, embarrassed, angry, and depressed. Working through the impacts of trauma can be overwhelming and intimidating. Finding a clinical psychologist with specialization in working with trauma is critical. For over 15 years, I have worked specifically with trauma related disorders.

I see adults for individual psychotherapy and also provide psychological testing for children, adolescents, and adults. I work from the psychoanalytic tradition, where I emphasize the role of a patient's early attachments in the development of his/her sense of self and others. I appreciate the importance of the patient-therapist relationship and understand that trust is a necessary part of the treatment process, which includes maintaining a confidential and safe place where each patient is able to explore and work through the presenting concerns.

I am so glad that our paths have crossed. Seeking help takes courage and we all need it from time to time. I view counseling as a relatively short term investment that yields a lifetime of value. In my personal and professional experience I have found that it usually takes a third party to help identify and challenge problematic patterns that keep us hurting and stuck. In this way, counseling helps you to develop new ways of thinking about and responding to life's inevitable challenges. Please feel free to browse www.threestonescounseling.com to find out more.

I have a heart for working with the victims of personality disorders. I am educated in sexual, physical, emotional, and mental abuse. I would love to walk through the healing damage of the toxicity of the cycle of abuse. Guiding Clients gently into seeing their own worth and learning their true identity. Clients will gain an understanding in healthy boundaries for themselves and others.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
