Certified IMAGO Therapist.
I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, couples and families who are facing challenges that affect their quality of life. I see individuals who struggle with anger, anxiety, depression and mood swings, which may be coupled with addictive thinking or behaviors, to help find calm amidst the chaos in one's life. I believe couples are a system, yet individually bring their own pain that is transmitted to one's partner. I am committed to helping couples transform their own pain with the support of their partner to be available to the joys of a committed partnership.

Our thoughts, fears, anxieties, and unfulfilled expectations can be obstacles to living the life we want to have and experience authentically. The therapeutic process supports and assists us in identifying, and better understanding all parts of our authentic selves. I listen and hold space for your individual situation. To hear how you’re feeling and understand the challenges that are impacting you daily. My intention is that we work together to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere where you can explore issues that may be difficult to talk about at sufficient length elsewhere while reaching healthy outcomes.

As a therapist, I collaborate with you to find positive answers to a problem. In doing so, therapy can bring inner peace, self-understanding and hope. Many people who come to counseling want someone to listen and give objective feedback . Therapy is a way to get that feedback so that issues are resolved in a timely manner.

Human connection is a necessity. Yet, why do the ones we love the most seem to hurt us in the worst ways? If only they would listen, be understanding and meet our needs. Love should be easy, yes? What if I told you these paradigms of thinking hinder our ability to fully connect and get the love and relationships we desire? My area of focus is couples, married and unmarried, as well as families and adults/adolescents in dysfunctional relationship systems.

Many of us want to live life more fully and also be more connected in our relationships. We sense certain things are problems that we want to change even if it is sometimes hard to articulate. We can find ourselves disoriented and uncertain as we experience transitions, stress, loss, disappointments or events that affect us & our relationships. I believe the therapeutic space is powerful & transformative. My therapeutic style is to offer couples and individuals a safe, authentic place where you are valued for who you are & where you are seen for more than just the issues that bring you into counseling.

Imago Therapists

How does Imago therapy work?

Imago relationship therapy is a form of couples counseling meant to help partners address conflict, communication problems, and related issues. Imago sessions typically involve couples sitting facing each other and participating in guided conversations. Therapy will also involve exercises such as re-imagining one’s partner as a wounded child; re-romanticizing a relationship through appreciation, surprises, and even gift-giving and restructuring frustrations by transforming complaints into requests. The ultimate goal is to re-envision the relationship as a source of safety and happiness.

What is the Imago method?

A core technique of Imago therapy is the Imago dialogue, in which partners learn to avoid hurtful statements and establish ways to interact based on each having equal space and power. In the dialogue, partners take turns as the “sender,” who shares their thoughts, and the “receiver.” The receiver is asked to “mirror,” or paraphrase, what their partner has said, without response or rebuttal, and then validate their statements, acknowledging understanding even if they do not personally agree with it. Finally, the receiver displays empathy by stating what they imagine the other is feeling, and showing appreciation for it.

How long does Imago therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for Imago therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core techniques of Imago coaching, some couples quickly make progress, but most should expect sessions to extend for months, encompassing at least 12 to 20 sessions, along with extensive “homework” from their therapist.

Does Imago therapy work?

There is limited empirical evidence to support the benefits of Imago therapy, but some smaller studies suggest that it does help couples, at least in the short-term. A 2017 study found that marital satisfaction increased significantly after couples completed 12 sessions of Imago therapy, and remained higher for some time after that, but did not always result in “complete recovery.” Other studies found greater empathy and fewer feelings of relationship burnout in couples after therapy. Some research suggests that Imago therapy can aid individuals as well as couples; people with ADHD in particular may benefit from the development of communication, self-control, and listening skills that form the basis of the technique.
