Healthy relationships with others and ourselves are the key to increasing confidence, connection, and living authentically. We cannot escape the impact of and need we have for interpersonal relationships. Healthy relationships provide us with an emotional safety net, help us thrive, and contribute to our sense of purpose and meaning. They make it easier for us to take calculated risks, pursue our goals and be ourselves. As your therapist I will help you improve your relationships with others and yourself by helping you heal from trauma,
grief
, and heartbreak. I will also help you go after what you want and stop sabotaging yourself.

Do you have thoughts, behaviors, or maladaptive patterns that have become a hinderance in your life? Have they become a barrier to creating and maintaining healthy relationships? Is this interfering with your sense of self, causing growing self-doubt or poor self-esteem? It is likely that these patterns were formed as defense mechanisms, uniquely designed in response to early experiences and environments, but now they no longer fit into the context of your life. Often these patterns are so entrenched in us that we’re not sure where they came from or how to stop them, which may produce feelings of anxiety, depression, fear, or
grief
.

Many of us want to live life more fully and also be more connected in our relationships. We sense certain things are problems that we want to change even if it is sometimes hard to articulate. We can find ourselves disoriented and uncertain as we experience transitions, stress,
loss
, disappointments or events that affect us & our relationships. I believe the therapeutic space is powerful & transformative. My therapeutic style is to offer couples and individuals a safe, authentic place where you are valued for who you are & where you are seen for more than just the issues that bring you into counseling.

Burnt-out, overwhelmed, stressed, utterly exhausted, it feels like effort to read all this. Life demands A LOT of energy just to function daily. Having a place set aside for you to show-up in whatever mood, energy level or mind state can feel like a refuge from daily obligations. Reprieve allows for focus, recalibration, and grounding. If it sounds like I have been there, I have been. Lived experience is a different type of education, I bring specialized training and lived experience together to support, guide, and encourage clients in their own restorative and transformational journey.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
