We are conditioned by our
family
-of-origin and rarely select incorrectly when connecting with others.
Human connection is a necessity. Yet, why do the ones we love the most seem to hurt us in the worst ways? If only they would listen, be understanding and meet our needs. Love should be easy, yes? What if I told you these paradigms of thinking hinder our ability to fully connect and get the love and relationships we desire? My area of focus is couples, married and unmarried, as well as families and adults/adolescents in dysfunctional relationship systems.

I am a licensed Marriage and
Family Therapist
; licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor.
It takes courage to make that first phone call to establish a therapy session and it takes even more courage to meet that therapist being vulnerable in discussing your concerns in this life. My goal when I meet every client is to support them in discovering how to make this life worth living. Many individuals go through life just coasting day by day trying to get by minute by minute. While I can not give you a magical solution to take care of all of life's problems, I can be there for you, listen to you and guide you towards living the best life you can live for you and your
family
.

Struggling with school, managing relationships with
family
, friends, and that first crush, and feelings never experienced before- all at the same time! Being a teen is tough.
ATTENTION PARENTS WHOSE CHILD IS STRUGGLING WITH DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, OR INTERPERSONAL ISSUES (AT SCHOOL OR AT HOME): You have a teenager who needs someone to talk to, but you aren’t sure who they will feel comfortable with. When your child shares their challenging experiences, you want someone who can RELATE. You’re looking for someone who has lived what your child is facing, and who MADE IT THROUGH. Someone who has a shared understanding of the struggles of being a teen, someone who can provide support and empathy, and someone who has already learned to manage and conquer what your adolescent is feeling.

The ideal client for the E.L.L.A group practice are individuals, families, adolescents suffering with emotional instability due to significant life transition, trauma & loss and those who struggle with psychiatric illness that impact daily functioning.
The group practice assists in finding answers for where (and why) an individual/
family
may be in their life.....how they got there (influences, stressors, traumas, barriers), identifying alternatives for improved life functioning (treatment, employment options etc), and finally assisting in finding contentment, balance and peace with current life status while encouraging optimal functioning in all aspects of one's life or business.

I work with individuals, couples, and families seeking help for a multitude of reasons some including: •
Family
of origin • Understanding patterns • Pre-marital & marital counseling • Life transitions • Relationship concerns • Identity • Communication concerns • Uncoupling • Boundaries and
family
dynamics • Anxiety • Depression • Self-esteem • Parenting.
It is not uncommon to find ourselves at some point in our lives feeling “stuck” often leaving us scared, paralyzed, sad, confused, angry, and/or fed up. It is my belief clients are the experts in their own lives and I aid in the uncovering process of their inherent goodness and strengths. Through an open and affirming, culturally competent, and trauma informed environment, I help clients feel “un-stuck” to then go and live the lives they want to live. It is my honor and privilege to walk alongside a wide range of clients and hear their stories.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
