I am working on furthering my work in Emotionally Focused Couples counseling as well as continuing to look into grief certifications.
Margaret loves to help equip clients with the tools needed to walk through difficult times in life. She wants to hear her clients’ stories and is an empathetic listener. Drawing from her own life experience, she believes that many people are held back from living their healthiest lives by personal and interpersonal issues that can be overcome by dealing with trauma. Margaret is a lifelong Hoosier, but loves to travel with her family. She is married to her college sweetheart and has two growing boys.

I graduated from Indiana University with a master's degree in social work. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor. I have over 30 years of experience working with adults, teens, couples, and families. My focus areas of practice include but are not limited to depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, life transitions, and addictions. I have found that one single approach does not meet every client's needs. I take an eclectic approach to address specific needs based on the client's identified goals and level of motivation.

I’m an engaging, down-to-earth therapist who’s genuinely curious about why life feels so heavy right now. I love digging into life’s nuances and walking alongside people as they sort through what’s been handed to them. Relationships with yourself, family, friends, partners, or coworkers. can get complicated fast, especially during times of change. I’ll listen, show up, and get into the work with you because this is my passion. I care about your growth, healing, and hopes for the future. I’m not your “typical therapist.” I think outside the box and bring creativity to life’s problems.

For couples navigating relationship challenges, I am trained in Gottman Level 1 and 2 and use Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) to help partners better understand and communicate their deeper emotional needs.
Whatever brought you here, know that you are taking an important step! I work with adults and teens navigating all kinds of experiences including depression, anxiety, past trauma, relationship struggles, and life transitions. My work as a therapist is founded on the belief that healing happens in relationship. The wounds we carry most often began in relationship with others, and the path toward wholeness often comes by relating to ourselves and others differently. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space that welcomes all parts of you so that you can better understand and connect with yourself and others.

My goal is to assist my clients in navigating the challenges that life presents to each of us. I specialize in Psychodynamic, Depth-Oriented, and Emotionally Focused Therapies.
"Let out what is inside of you, for what is inside of you will save you". I believe this quote emphasizes the power of the therapeutic process: personal empowerment through self-expression, self-knowledge, and self-acceptance. In an ever-demanding, stressful, and confusing world, it's easy to lose sight of one of the most healing and fulfilling relationships one can have: the relationship with oneself. I experience therapy as a unique collaboration in which one is guided toward a more profound and restorative understanding of their individuality.

You may be carrying experiences that feel too heavy alone-navigating life as an immigrant or refugee, healing from trauma or domestic violence, facing serious illness or loss, or supporting a loved one with developmental disabilities. Clients come to me exhausted but hopeful: tired of managing alone, yet believing things can change. You deserve a therapist who truly sees you-your culture, your resilience, your humanity. I meet you without judgment. Together we identify what's keeping you stuck, build on your existing strengths, and create a path forward. You don't have to carry this alone.

My ideal clients are children who are struggling with ADHD, ASD, or engaging in behavior that aren't getting their needs met, or adults who feel stuck, overwhelmed by distress, trauma, or behaviors that no longer serve them, but who still wants more from life. They may be ready to make meaningful changes, even if they don’t know where to start. They want support that’s flexible, creative, and grounded in real science. Their goals? To feel better, live in line with their values, and build a life that works for them. They may want to climb, walk, or create their way through it, and I’m here for all of it.

In order to integrate research- and evidence-based practices into my couples/relational counseling, I am Prepare/Enrich certified and have completed the Gottman Level 1 training and an externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Disconnection can be a painful, lonely experience. Perhaps you’ve been finding it difficult to connect with family or friends, or you’re experiencing conflict with a spouse or partner. Maybe you're feeling internally conflicted or disconnected spiritually, or your experiences with religion have felt damaging. If these days you find yourself craving more understanding, peace, or meaning, you’re in good company. After all, relationships make all the difference – whether they are stressing us out or filling our lives with love and purpose. This is why I’m passionate about helping folks explore connections and heal relationships.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
