You don’t have to keep being the version of you that everyone else is comfortable with. There’s nothing wrong with you for wanting something different; for craving more depth, more alignment, more truth in how you live your life. Sometimes this shift shows up in midlife, during perimenopause, or in seasons of identity change. Other times, it simply arrives as a quiet (or not-so-quiet) knowing: something needs to change. My clients typically are deeply reflective, intuitive and ready for change. They feel at a point that no longer allows them to be who they've been, but struggle in getting to who they truly are.

I work with adults (18+) in both individual and couples therapy. I have extensive experience supporting a range of clients, with a particular focus on those in the LGBTQI+ community and individuals engaged in ethical non-monogamy (ENM), while remaining open and affirming to all.

It is very helpful when you are willing to be vulnerable with me and yourself. I also greatly appreciate when you tell me what is and what is not working in therapy. I want you to always be honest with me because I want to help you as much as I can.

I work with adults ages 25-65+ who are interested in making fundamental changes in their lives and in managing their mental health. Life today is very stressful. Hundreds of people just like you are feeling the effects of what is going on in the world today. Many people I have talked with lately who haven't considered therapy are deciding to do so. How long have you been struggling with anxiety? Sleepless nights? Feeling hopeless about your current situation? Are you ready to try something new? I use several therapy approaches with research-based interventions including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

The Greek philosopher Socrates was known for his treatment of the “the unexamined life.” In this chaotic world of constant activity and organization in both our work and family life, it is difficult to find the opportunity for self-reflection. Who am I? Where am I going? What do I want my life to be about? The struggles and wounds we carry can leave us with profound anxiety, depression and a sense of emptiness. When therapy works, it can help us to slow down, learn about ourselves and find a path.

Life is unpredictable and constantly changing. Sometimes change is planned, anticipated, and welcome. At other times change catches us off guard, leaving us feeling unprepared, confused, devastated, and wondering how we can possibly cope. It can trigger painful memories from the past and create fear of the future. We might feel stuck, alone, and hopeless. Whether the changes and challenges you face are related to trauma, life transitions, balancing roles/relationships, stress or other situations, healing and growth are possible.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.
How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.
How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.
What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
