I work with individuals, couples , and families through a variety of pit stops on their journey towards healing, that include but are not limited to: Pre-marital Counseling, Complexities in dating, Low self-esteem/self-worth, Childhood trauma/wounds, Couple concerns, Anxiety, Depression, Faith & Spirituality concerns/hurts, Life adjustment, & Racial Trauma.
Sometimes the journey of life can take us to places where we don’t want to be. That place can leave us feeling scared, isolated, anxious, hurt, traumatized, and disconnected from those we care about. It is a complete joy and honor to journey with clients as they work towards journeying towards the life they prefer. I believe the client is the expert of their own life and I get to help them navigate the complexities of life and relationships.

If you want a meaningful life, a confident self, a better relationship , and you are willing to roll up your sleeves, I can help you get there.
Opting for therapy is not easy. The thought may even be scary. Well, that's normal. Who wants to open their private pains to someone they've just met? But when life hurts, when you've tried your best to fix things and it just isn't working, you might consider doing something different. Life's too short to merely abide in distress.

How long have you been hearing the call to a different way of being with yourself and the world? It might just be the quiet whispering of your heart urging you to something more. Or perhaps the whole universe is shouting that something has got to change, you can’t keep living like this. Avoiding our fear of change can keep us stuck. But your capacity to heal is only limited by your beliefs about what is possible. Genuinely transformational work is ultimately a mix of intentional effort and surprising playfulness. It’s about engaging your inner life in new and creative ways in the safe space of a trusted relationship .

There are many reason why you find yourself seeking therapy at this time, however, I imagine a consistent theme may be the desire to begin building the life and relationships you desire. Therapy is one of the few spaces in which insightful, thought-provoking connections can thrive; allowing room for new understanding, fostering growth and healing past wounds. Ultimately, providing the necessary space and time to heal. While I build my practice from many schools of therapeutic technique, I truly believe the relationship between client and therapist is the most important piece of the counseling experience and the healing process.

I treat both individuals and couples at our Southside Indianapolis office, to include helping individuals understand and work on issues that affect their relationships; helping with concerns such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar; and providing full marriage counseling. My work with couples is grounded in relationship principles shown to be effective in the marriage research literature, and is guided by both my clinical training and my personal experiences in my marriage of 34 years. Goals for therapy generally include finding greater satisfaction in life, work, and relationships.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
