My patients come to me with a wide range of concerns but most frequently with anxiety, depression, relationship issues or child or teen behavior problems.
I work best with folks who are seeking practical effective solutions to their personal, family or relationships problems and who would like to see results as quickly as possible. They are open to learning new ways of thinking about their problems and are receptive to new approaches. You can generally count on leaving your first session confident that I understand the problems you have presented and have clear formulations and concrete solutions to offer. Half of my cases are closed in under six sessions, most with good and lasting results.

I see adults, couples, children and adolescents.
My approach is to understand my client through a complete history of childhood and adult experiences so that we can together explore how the client perceives the world. Sometimes experiences can cause clients to be anxious, defensive or make poor choices. I hope to help clients see how these approaches may have been useful in other times in life but may be less useful now. Sometimes a new approach to thinking is helpful. Other times insight and being understood can promote change. This approach also works with both parties in a couple to help regain trust and form new ways of relating.

I have experience working with children and teens who have difficulties with anger management, communication deficits, social-emotional disregulation, histories of trauma, and problems with executive functioning skills.
My passion is helping families connect to each other by learning to communicate effectively using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This can be done in a multitude of ways including: BCBA consultation, ABA Therapy, Family Training, and Social Skills Training. In my experience, ABA Therapy can help everyone involved, not just the person receiving direct services, so it is important to include the whole family unit. I enjoy working with my clients to learn ways to self-regulate, communicate, and grow all while maintaining the traits and characteristics that make them special and unique.

I have been helping adults, youth, children and families discover change for over 20 years.
I specialize in helping clients with complex needs for change-making. Even the common reasons that we seek therapy – depression, anxiety & strained relationships - can become overwhelming. Especially, when we add conditions like non-typical brain processing (ADHD), unique ways of thinking (Asperger’s/ Autism Spectrum) & surviving chronic trauma (e.g., Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Dissociative Disorders). These challenges require educating ourselves about our condition, learning to believe in ourselves, developing self-soothing skills & retraining our brain structures that operate in survival mode.

In addition to therapy, I also provide psychological assessments for children , adolescents, and adults.
Entering therapy is not always easy, but it's an important step towards change. I believe therapy should be a process where my clients and I work as a team to identify strengths and learn new skills to increase their ability to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems. I specialize in treating children and adolescents with mood and behavioral disorders. When working with children , I believe it's important to engage parents in the treatment and empower them be a coach and implement strategies discussed in therapy at home with their children .

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
