I also have experience working with domestic violence offenders and I periodically offer workshops dealing with anger , anger management and shame.
I work with clients who are ready for change and are eager to honestly examine their lives-- clients who are ready to explore issues which have generated disappointments, resentments, loneliness, pain, anger , or heartache. Life is hard, and at times we all need someone who will see us, hear us, and help us explore who we are and why we do the things we do. My approach is primarily psychodynamic and it is highly influenced by object relations and attachment theory. I believe our work is a collaborative effort. I provide a compassionate, engaging and respectful environment for clients.

Most of my experience has involved: depression/anxiety, self-harm behaviors and/or suicidal ideation, behavioral concerns, school problems, family and peer relationships, and stress/ anger management .
Is your adolescent struggling in school? Are you having difficulty keeping his/her behavior under control? Is your child acting differently (isolating themselves, arguing more than usual, avoiding peers, self-harming)? Are you struggling with a divorced or blended family situation? I would love to be able to help you, your child, and your family. I have been working with at-risk, troubled youth and their families for over 15 years. This includes working closely with the school, juvenile system, and medical practitioners, as well.

I believe that if you are willing to do the work we can work efficiently and effectively to replace fear with courage, restlessness with contentment, anger with joy, and despair with hope.
I believe the client is the expert. You know your self better than anyone. You know how you feel when life happens, you know what frustrates you and what makes you angry. You know what is upsetting and what makes you sad, and you know when something isn't right or that something is off. The problem is that sometimes you don't know why, and if you don't know why, you can't fix it. I take an approach that starts with uncovering what you believe, because so much of what you believe becomes reality whether it's through our behavior or through some kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.

Presence and accompaniment matter. We can more easily connect to our true self and touch emotional distress in the presence of another's settled nervous system. Neurobiology and mindfulness science has proven that the human brain can be distraught while simultaneously observing the self with compassion. The ability to be both experiencing and holding the experience is the key to maintaining calm when facing challenges. Whether you feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxiety, anger , depression, or find yourself reacting in ways that leave you feeling alone and hurt, we can come to be with all of it with gentle awareness and respect.

My focus is on providing a therapeutic space for individuals and families who wish to address depression, anxiety, anger or other emotional needs. As a therapist, I understand that it can be a hard road to healing. Accepting a little help along the way should not be seen as a sign of weakness, but rather a step toward a greater you!

I also work with those struggling with grief and loss, codependency and relationship issues, life adjustment difficulties, anger and emotional-management issues, mood disorders, and low self-worth.
Are you feeling stuck in your life? Do you feel mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically exhausted, confused, or disconnected? It's easy to get stuck in our patterns, ways of functioning in life become habitual, and often these patterns become damaging to us- personally and relationally. What's more, it's not always easy to see exactly where we are getting stuck and how to move beyond that place. I offer support, encouragement, and trust as you begin a new journey toward healing and growth.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
