People come to therapy with wounds. And it is in these wounds that the light shines through. In therapy, we learn we need not fear the places where one feels stuck, overwhelmed or enslaved. My approach to psychotherapy is holistic, integrating mind body and spirit, through a variety of modalities. My diverse background has deepened my understanding for those wrestling with existential, spiritual and religious belonging, life transitions, sexual orientation, relational challenges and childhood traumas.

I view therapy as a safe and sacred space for processing life experiences, emotions, thoughts, and trauma in order to achieve one’s goals and necessary growth. My goal as a therapist is to collaborate with clients to understand their thought processes, address barriers to wellness, and identify ways in which they can achieve their goals. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives: however, sometimes we need an outside perspective to help re-frame our thinking. I’m here to work with you to increase self-awareness and empower you to approach life in a way that enhances health and well-being.

Nothing is more important or challenging than parenting.
I work together with parents to determine what works, and to set, prioritize, and realize goals through communication tools, and positive, respectful discipline techniques that increase follow through, responsibility, and respect, and help to decrease power struggles, sibling conflicts, chore wars, and morning/bedtime/homework hassles.

Clients come to me with stress, sadness, anxiety, guilt, grief, shame, confusion, addiction, relationship issues and trauma. Clients often need help with processing overwhelming emotional experiences and getting back to a place where they can 'self-regulate' their own nervous systems during tough times. My work focuses on a somatic/body-centered, trauma informed, mindfulness-based approach. Clients who work with me find that the therapeutic relationship serves as a resource for getting where they want to be in their lives. With therapeutic support, difficult experiences help guide us to our innate wisdom, strength and resilience.

As a parent myself, I love working with other parents who are trying to raise kind humans and want support.
I focus on how mental health issues impact one's day to day life, and I help clients improve their insight and outlook on issues. I have worked within the school corporations and family courts. I can help guide you on your journey. As a parent, I know how it feels to be in the trenches; and I love working with fellow parents to ease the load.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
