My ideal clients are adults, couples, and parents who feel overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about how to move forward. Many struggle with anxiety, relationship challenges, stress, life transitions, parenting concerns, grief, or past experiences that continue to affect daily life. I work especially well with men who have spent years carrying stress on their own and are ready for practical support and meaningful change. Many of my clients are hardworking individuals and families balancing work, finances, family responsibilities, and life’s everyday pressures.

I believe there is a light at the end of everyone's tunnel, some people just have longer tunnels. My role is to work with you and remind you of the tools that you have in your toolbox so you can find the light within your tunnel. I have over 10 years of experience working with teens, adolescents, couples, and families who have experienced a myriad of life stressors and disorders. From anxiety, depression, conduct disorder, ODD, relational and marriage issues, substance use, trauma, and phase of life issues, I am able to help. This journey we call life can feel like a lot, but nothing is impossible with the right tools.

There are many reasons people seek out counseling, but the underlying reasons are that we are looking for change, meaning, or healing. Whatever your individual needs may be, I commend you for taking the first steps in addressing your situation head-on. Each client is unique, and therefore, there is no one right approach that may work best for everyone. Because of this, I use a trauma-informed integrative style to give you, the client, space to be yourself in an empathic and non-judgmental environment.

You've tried everything already and you still feel stuck. You're beating yourself up because you should be able to "fix" everything on your own. There is real strength in asking for help. Working with a professional can make all the difference. I believe in doing what works, not just what's expected. Working with me means you won’t get a one size fits all, by the book approach. I’m not afraid to rethink what therapy is supposed to look like. I offer the opportunity for something different. Hands on care. Extra support. Alternative locations. House calls. Therapy when you need it, where you need it, and how you need it.

My ideal client is feeling stuck—overwhelmed by anxiety, strained relationships, or substance use. They need a safe, judgment-free space to talk openly and practical tools to manage stress, improve communication, and break unhealthy patterns. Their goals are clear: build confidence, strengthen connections, and create lasting change. They want peace of mind and control over their life because they're tired of just coping—they're ready to thrive.

Anxiety can feel like a constant hum in the background of your life—or like a sudden wave that knocks you off your feet. Thoughts racing at night, keeping you from getting enough sleep. Overthinking conversations to the point you start avoiding situations, zapping your confidence to take chances or make changes. Not to mention a general fear that things aren’t quite right and will soon fall apart. However it shows up, anxiety can be exhausting.

My ideal client would be open to my observations of their personality; one who knows that I too can learn from them, not only the other way around; who is a good historian and willing to be compliant in sharing pertinent factors to their recovery; one with whom I can establish a basis of mutual trust and who understands that my role as a therapist is not to only one who can empathize with their situation but appreciate a good sense of humor; one who is willing to apply my experience, strength and hope to their problem; one who is open to the importance of accepting life on life's terms.

Are you struggling with anxiety symptoms or depressive symptoms, including competing with your negative self-talk? Are you noticing that you are struggling to be vulnerable with those around you? As your therapist, we will explore the societal expectations and pressures that are suspending your growth; discover the parts of yourself that feel too vulnerable to say out loud to others; and recognize the stressors in your life and identify tools to manage them.

Hello there! I'm Terry Coy, an Individual, Marriage, and Family Therapist. For many this process and seeing so many names of therapy or mental health names can be overwhelming. With this in mind, I would like to introduce myself in what I would call session zero. No fees, get to know me a little bit, and hopefully we get a head start on building trust and comfort. First, congratulations on making it this far. Already, although it may not seem like much, you have taken a HUGE step toward improving your life. Therapy, because of myths and cultural stigmas, may seem either scary or useless.

Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they're never weakness. —Brené Brown Hello! The first step you are taking in your mental health journey is a big step for change. It takes a lot of strength and courage to start therapy so know that is a powerful place to be. Many times people often ask, "what is therapy?" I am here to tell you what it looks like with me. I believe that therapy is about collaboration, working together to meet your needs, and your goals by strengthening your resources to get there.

I work with individuals who are experiencing depression, anxiety—including social and performance anxiety—and challenges related to life transitions. In our initial sessions, we will focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship while exploring the thoughts, emotions, and patterns contributing to your concerns. Together, we will develop practical strategies and goals to support meaningful change. I love to help people unpack the questions "why am I the way that I am" and "how can I become my true self."

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
