My clients are often struggling with excessive stress, or anxiety and depression, and can be triggered by past traumas. Many are experiencing oppression, discrimination, prejudice, or stigma. They want a better quality of life, for themselves and for their children or loved ones. My clients are often looking for inner peace and happiness to fully enjoy themselves and to enjoy interacting with others in situations or environments, such as work, school and home. It’s finding resilience, for example through newly learned skills and insights, or a spiritual journey of meditation/prayer, as examples, that allow a better quality of life.

I have worked with a variety of challenges children and teens face, including mood disturbances, depression, anxiety , behavior concerns, and identity confusion.
I strongly believe that early intervention in the lives of our children and teens can change their trajectory in life. I began my career as a school counselor and am deeply moved by the struggles our children and teens are facing. As parents it can be difficult to seek help, but in my experience it impacts children in remarkable ways when their parents acknowledge their struggles and pain. We all want to be heard and understood. Let me support your child or teen in a non-judgmental and loving environment.

Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder can be overwhelming. There is substantial overlap with anxiety , depression, and difficulty adjusting to an ever-changing life. Many individuals are also challenged with behavioral and sensory issues that are difficult to manage, often resulting in conflicts with family members, coworkers, and classmates. These challenges can quickly grow into a life that feels unmanageable and unhappy. When life gets hard, a little help goes a long way. The chaos and stress can impact all areas of life. But it doesn't have to. You don't have to go it alone.

I effectively work with a variety of concerns and symptoms, including: various levels of depression, anxiety , mood management, identity issues, loss of purpose and meaning, anger, shame, breaking codependency, struggles with self worth and self acceptance, setting limits and boundaries with others and obligations, sexuality or gender identity issues, unhealthy relationship patterns—but ultimately I strive to help clients become whole beings by reintegrating disowned parts of themselves. My Gestalt orientation pairs best with older adolescents (16-18) and adults--males and young adults often strongly relate to Gestalt practices.

Deciding to go to therapy can be an anxious experience, and I hope to ease that decision by offering a calming and welcoming space. Every client has a story that matters and I am honored to be part of helping you achieve your goals. Together we can build a treatment plan to address your needs and wants. I work mostly with teens and adult women who have symptoms of anxiety , depression, and/or trauma. Using CBT/TF-CBT, I help my clients change their thoughts, build better emotional reserves, and find solutions that work for them. Along with my registered emotional support dog, I strive to make therapy a healing place you want to be.

I view counseling as a partnership between myself, the client, and their family/support system. I have experience working with individuals, groups, and family/marital therapy. In addition to working with depression, anxiety , stress management, and relationship skills, I have experience with personality disorders, and trauma healing; particularly women who have abuse in their history and are currently experiencing distress in relationships, re-victimization, and/or substance use. I believe in meeting the client where they are at and moving forward in their time and stage of change.

I have extensive experience in various settings working with teens and teen topics, women's mental health, anxiety and depression symptoms resulting from relationship issues, life transitions, and trauma.
We all carry our past experiences with us. They help to shape us into who we are today and fill the pages of our book of life. Some of these experiences bring us joy, while others bring us heartbreak. There are some that follow a clear path, while there are others that challenge us with unexpected twists and turns. As we move through the chapters in our book of life, there are times when we can steer easily through these experiences. However, for those times that you may need support with navigating, I am here to help you reintroduce control, empowerment, fulfillment, and provide you with the tools needed to move forward.

I specialize in working with individuals who might be struggling with anger, anxiety , OCD, panic , perfectionism, and high-pressure life situations. My ideal client would be someone who is looking to gain insight into the issues underlying their concerns and work through those issues in a therapy setting. While there is often no clear-cut "one and done" solution to life's difficulties, I have seen the therapeutic process make a huge difference in client's lives.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
