Imagine someone listening without judging or giving unsolicited advice. Imagine having a place to go where no one asks something of you, where you can let go of stress, anxiousness, or loneliness. Family, friends and society may not understand, or may be unable to carry our burdens. Therapy is intended to enter our lives when support is needed. The therapists at Well Heart Psychotherapy work with individuals, couples and groups to offer support and healing, and approach clients with compassion and nonjudgement, encouraging acceptance and gentleness within.

I offer collaborative, depth-oriented therapy rooted in modern psychodynamic and self-ecological thinking.
I mostly serve children, families, couples, young adults, and adults who feel entangled in relational, emotional, spiritual, political, or community systems. Folks may come to the office wrestling with anxiety, depression, trauma, existential questions, religious wounds, betrayal, infidelity, and/or family conflict. Working together, you can begin to understand the patterns shaping your life, integrate both the light and shadows of your story, deepen relational capacity, and move toward authenticity, freedom, and self-determination.

Being a teen girl is tough! Raising a teen girl can be even tougher. Anxiety, depression, identity issues, peer relations, academic stress, and outside pressures can leave teen girls needing increased support just as many are beginning to pull away from their parents to develop their own passions and purpose. Parents often find themselves feeling like an outsider as their teen daughters suddenly begin to turn to peers, friends, and social media for advice and guidance instead of mom or dad. This can lead to increased family conflict as parents and teens struggle to communicate with each other and find common ground.

Hi, Welcome. I help individuals who feel stuck or unsure how to move forward. You might feel mentally drained, caught in negative thoughts, or find yourself replaying situations long after they have happened. Many of my clients feel like they’re falling behind in life or don’t recognize themselves anymore. Together, we build insight into these patterns and develop practical ways to respond differently. Others come in dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction, or life transitions and want a clearer, more confident way forward.

That voice inside says "You're such a failure" or "I can't live like this" and you panic. Holding this alone is heavy. The tight chest and heart racing may make you disappear awhile, overeat, spend, procrastinate, drink, fight, sleep. The other side is despair and you feel drained and shut down. You are losing your marriage, your family feels toxic, coming out as queer/trans is scary, you notice childhood trauma keeps flooding you. If you have a teen who is struggling with feeling good, school, or friends they may feel lost and need help. Therapy can relieve burdens & build that "I can handle this" mindset.

I treasure a core belief that human beings are inherently compassionate, wise, and whole. Then life happens, and we begin to lose access to our resourcefulness. Connection, authenticity, and empathy form the foundation of my work. I feel that change and healing occur both experientially and relationally. By utilizing compassion, curiosity, honesty, and humor, I connect and collaborate with clients to build a supportive and non-judgmental environment for self-exploration, healing, and growth.

My approach is to understand my client through a complete history of childhood and adult experiences so that we can together explore how the client perceives the world. Sometimes experiences can cause clients to be anxious, defensive or make poor choices. I hope to help clients see how these approaches may have been useful in other times in life but may be less useful now. Sometimes a new approach to thinking is helpful. Other times insight and being understood can promote change. This approach also works with both parties in a couple to help regain trust and form new ways of relating.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
